OPEN Media Hub

The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.

 PRODUCTION:

Video Recording Settings: 

PAL, 1080 50i Or 25p, 16:9 aspect ratio

In-Camera recording codec: 

– High Definition H.264, AVC, DVCProHD, Intra HD or equivalent.

– Recording Bitrate: 50Mbits/sec ideal. 35Mbits/sec acceptable.

 

POST PRODUCTION:

– All video content to be edited in full quality within your chosen editing environment. Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro are recommended.

 

Final Master HDTV story should be delivered in the following format:

– Video: MP4, H.264 or H.265 @ 1920×1080 25p (recommended) or 50i. Aspect ratio: 16:9 and a bitrate of 10,000kbps

Final Square video should be delivered in the following format: 

– Video: H264 1080×1080 25p (recommended) or 50i. Aspect ratio: 1:1 and a bitrate of 10,000kbps.

– You video must fill the entire screen. (no letterboxing)

 

Tip: Create and edit the HDTV version of you story first. Once complete, duplicate the project or sequence and use this to create your square version. After you have changed the frame size to 1080×1080, don’t forget to reposition your video content to ensure the main action remains inside the new frame.

Audio for Both videos:
– Audio: 48KHz, MPEG-4 AAC or equivalent @ 192kbps. Stereo audio

– No commentary is recommended for Being 20 stories, a stereo mix of natural sound and soundbites is required. If you choose to use music, please ensure you have the appropriate music licence and mix it appropriately with the rest of the audio in your video.

 

Clean Video:

If you intend to use graphics, logos or text in your video, please also provide a clean version of your story in both formats. Please add the graphics to the script with relevant in/out timecodes.

 

DELIVERY

Please use the following guide for naming your files to help ensure we can publish your stories as quickly as possible.

  1. HD video:

producer-name-story-name-HD
eg: john-smith-the-photographer-HD.mp4

 

If you are also providing clean versions, use the same name but add ‘c’ to the end of your file name.

eg: john-smith-the-photographer-HDc.mp4

 

  1. Square video:

producer-name-story-name-SQ
eg: simon-hustings-the-photographer-SQ.mp4

 

If you are also providing clean versions, use the same name but add ‘c’ to the end of your file name.
