OPEN Media Hub

The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.

Title: Ai, Mouraria

Short summary:  Mouraria is one of the most ancient neighbourhoods of Portugal. It was until a few years ago a very typical Lisbon location with Portuguese traditional stores. But today it is completely changed. There live 52 different nationalities. Most of them came from Asian countries. During “The Christian Reconquer” by the 1 St King of Portugal – D. Afonso Henriques, this place was selected to be the Mouros`s (Moors’) neighbourhoods. Today the Asian returned to Mouraria and it is not a typical Portuguese location anymore. They opened their stores; they bought shops and rented houses. Portuguese people are not the majority in Mouraria. Most of these people do not speak Portuguese, same of them are illegal and do not trust journalists. Several meetings have been held by the film maker before start the documentary. It was essential to approach to these people. And day after day it was a reality. “Ai, Mouraria” documentary is a real example how the world`s population is moving around, looking for a place to be in peace and happy. In Mouraria neighbourhood, the 52 nationalities live together, integrated and without troubles.
