Short summary: On the road to the Balkans: the harmful effects of anti-migration policies in Europe” was written after a three-month stay between January and April 2017 on the ground in Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia and in Greece – in Athens and Thessaloniki as well as on the islands of Chios and Leros. This article examines the effects of the closing of the borders of certain European states, the European policies of reception and the agreement concluded between Turkey and the European Union in March 2016 on the migrant populations.
