Details: | Shatha Al-Azzah is an environmental activist and a refugee living in Aida Camp in Bethlehem. Due to the lack of space and land in the camp, she leads an innovative project that aims to build greenhouses and create gardens on the rooftops of people’s houses. These gardens become sources of produce and self-sufficiency for the families, who can plant them with different crops throughout the seasons. In addition, these gardens count as a breathing space for the highly dense camp. In her project, she also uses solid waste in recycling and up-cycling, and creates practical pieces for the gardens. For example, she uses wooden pallets for chairs, car tires and plastic cups for seedlings and continues to expand the project with a group of volunteers in the camp. |
