Avengers: Secret Wars - Release Date, Cast, Plot And More

When Marvel Studios announced phases 5 and 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some of the titles stood out to the fans. While we’re excited for every release in the next 2 to 3 years, some titles piqued our interest a little more than others. Some of the most anticipated titles according to us are Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Loki Season 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Thunderbolts, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and of course, the one that we will be talking about in this article, Avengers: Secret Wars.

While everyone has enjoyed the recent movies and series by Marvel Studios, one can’t help but miss the classic Avengers movies. Although we won’t get those back considering Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers are all dead, or on the moon (yes, we’re looking at you Steve), Avengers: Secret Wars allows Marvel Studios to bring some old and some new Avengers together, and that’s what makes this movie so highly anticipated, and so, here’s everything you need to know about Avengers: Secret Wars, from the speculated plot to the cast, to the release date and much more:

What Is The Plot of Avengers: Secret Wars?

So far, we know that Avengers: Secret Wars is going to be the last installment of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which in itself makes it a very big deal, and puts it on the same level as Avengers: Endgame. Yes, that’s how big it’s going to be. Before we dive into the movie, let’s talk a little about the origin of Secret Wars in the comics. Secret Wars was a twelve-issue comic book crossover that was released between 1984 to 1985 and was also released as another issue between 2015 to 2016, so Marvel Studios has definitely taken its time to bring this concept to the big screen, and hopefully, it will be worth the wait.

What is the Plot of Avengers: Secret Wars?

In the comics, the main characters of Secret Wars were as follows: Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man, Kang, Ultron, Doctor Octopus, and Galactus amongst several others. It will be interesting to see how many of these characters make it on screen, but even if 60% of all the characters do, it will be a huge win for Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will definitely make Avengers: Secret Wars one of the most popular movies ever made, and we don’t just mean by Marvel Studios. Given the liberty that comes with the concept of the multiverse, hopefully, this can be executed on a large scale, even if they have to pull some characters from different universes.

As for the plot, if Marvel Studios takes inspiration from the comics, it is likely that the main villain of Avengers: Secret Wars is going to be The Beyonder, a cosmic entity that sends Superheroes and Supervillains to a planet called Battleworld. If the name of the planet wasn’t enough, along with the title, Avengers: Secret Wars, here’s a line from The Beyonder, spoken in the Secret Wars comics: “I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!” So that should give you the gist of the potential plotline of Avengers: Secret Wars, should they take inspiration from the comics, which fans are hoping that they will.

The Beyonder

The heroes of course include the Avengers, in this case. And the supervillains are most likely to include either Galactus or Doctor Doom, or even both if we’re lucky. However, Doctor Doom has been one of those characters that the fans have been waiting for, for the longest time, especially given his importance and wrath in comic books. So it will be interesting to see how many characters make it to Battleworld, and who wins after slaying their enemies. Between the battle of good and evil, good doesn’t always emerge victorious, and the sooner we know that the easier it will be to watch Avengers: The Secret Wars.

The Cast of Avengers: Secret Wars

The cast of Avengers: Secret Wars is one of the most discussed topics, and we’re here to join in that discussion. Since this movie is a part of Phase 6, we don’t have too many concrete details regarding the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars, but we can try guessing based on the comics, and movies that will release in Phases 5 and 6.

Since this is an Avengers movie, the most likely cast members to reprise their characters are Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. It will be interesting to see if Letitia Wright joins the cast, continuing her role as the new Black Panther. We’re also hoping to see Paul Rudd return as Ant-Man unless something goes horribly wrong in his upcoming movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Of course, there are several new Avengers too, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and  Shang-Chi amongst others. It will all depend on Marvel Studios and their vision for Avengers: Secret Wars.

As for the villains, we can expect to see Jonathan Majors return as Kang, unless he is killed in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Alfred Molina might reprise his role as Doctor Octopus, although, given his last appearance, he might just fight for the heroes instead. One of the most important castings will be of Doctor Doom and Galactus, so do let us know in the comments if you can imagine any of your favorite actors in these roles.

One question that the fans have is if Spider-Man returns for Avengers: Secret Wars, which ideally he should, which Spider-Man would return? While we all love Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland, and Andrew Garfield, fans are definitely hoping for Garfield to make a return! It’s only a matter of a couple more years before we find out.

There have also been recent rumors regarding Robert Downey Jr’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Secret Wars. This has not been confirmed yet, and if this is actually going to happen, it might end up being Marvel Studio’s most well-kept secret. While all these superheroes are great, the one person who can actually save everyone is Scarlett Witch, so here’s hoping we see Elizabeth Olsen once again!

When and Where Can You Watch Avengers: Secret Wars

Originally, Avengers: Secret Wars was supposed to release on the 8th of November, 2025. However, we know Marvel and its delays, so it’s no shocker that the release date has been pushed. As of now, the official release date for Avengers: Secret Wars is the 1st of May, 2026. So that’s a seven-month delay, and we understand how you’re feeling, but considering the plot and possible characters, this movie will be worth the wait. As for where you can watch it, a movie as big as Avengers: Secret Wars is bound to have a theatrical release.

However, given the current COVID scare, fans are worried that this might either cause more delays or a small screen release on Disney+. Our gut says, if there’s a pandemic, there will be a delay in production, which will result in a delay in release. So let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Is there a Trailer for Avengers: Secret Wars?

Since the release date of Avengers: Secret Wars is over three years away, we don’t have a trailer just yet. However, we’ll keep you posted regarding any updates!

While there is a fair amount of things to unpack here, we recommend reading the Secret Wars comics, because they are truly one of the best crossover comic books in the history of Marvel comics! We can’t wait to learn more about Avengers: Secret Wars, and hopefully, as phases 5 and 6 release their movies and tv series, we will be able to pick some hints along the way.
