In 2018, we were introduced to Book Club, which was a movie about love, laughter, and most importantly, friendship. It is often said that age is just a number and one shouldn’t stop living their life to the fullest just because they’re getting old, and Book Club was the perfect testimony to that. It is no wonder that the movie is now getting a sequel and we all get to witness it in 2023. Book Club: The Next Chapter will be the second installment of this series, aka the sequel which we all have hoped and waited for. Book Club: The Next Chapter will be directed by Bill Holderman and written by Erin Simms, who were both involved in the very successful 2018 movie too.
Several people thought that Book Club would be a standalone movie, but are more than thrilled about this sequel which might not revolve around the four friends sitting around and reading a book. Book Club: The Next Chapter is about to up the ante and introduced the fans to their favorite characters but in a different setting. We are just as intrigued and excited as you, so here is everything you need to know about Book Club: The Next Chapter, from the plot to the cast, to the release date and much more:

What Is The Plot of Book Club: The Next Chapter?
Book Club: The Next Chapter is definitely going to be a lot different from the first movie, Book Club, which revolved around four best friends getting together at a book club, as means of spending more time together and discussing books and their lives. However, Book Club: The Next Chapter has decided to fly us all the way to Italy, and the official synopsis of the movie reads:
“The highly anticipated sequel follows our four best friends as they take their book club to Italy for the fun girl’s trip they never had. When things go off the rails and secrets are revealed, their relaxing vacation turns into a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure.”
It is a known fact that most movies that revolve around the concept of a girls’ trip or a bachelorette focus on women in their 20s or 30s, but we’ve never seen older women take the classic trip of a lifetime, and we’re going to witness just that with Book Club: The Next Chapter. The movie revolves around the four best friends, Diane, Vivian, Carol, and Sharon. The women have had a tight-knit group for years, and in Book Club: The Next Chapter, Vivian is officially engaged! The women realize that this might be their only opportunity to take a trip, travel around, experience new things, and have the time of their life. So, they decide to go ahead and book their tickets for Italy, the dream destination.
As we follow our four favorite women to Italy, we live vicariously through them because they sure know how to have fun, and also get into some trouble, which could possibly even get them arrested. We’ll have to watch Book Club: The Next Chapter to find out everything these brilliant women get up to, they once again teach us that it doesn’t matter how old you are, what matters is that you stay young at heart, and take each day as it comes.
The Cast of Book Club: The Next Chapter
One of the best parts about Book Club was the ensemble cast, especially the four leading ladies who carried the entire movie. It wouldn’t have made sense to make another movie unless they were all reprising their respective roles, because let’s face it, they are the stars of the movie and truly irreplaceable. So, the good news is that they will be reprising their roles for the sequel, Book Club: The Next Chapter. Starting with Diane Keaton, who will play the role of Diane. Keaton’s career spans over six decades and you might recognize her from some very popular movies like The Godfather and Father of the Bride.
Moving along, we have Jane Fonda, who will be returning as Vivian, aka the one who just got engaged and is the reason they all take this wonderful trip to Italy. Fonda needs no introduction, but you might have previously seen her in movies and tv shows like Monster-in-Law or Grace and Frankie. Joining Keaton and Fonda, we have the other two lovely ladies, and the very popular Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen returning as Sharon and Carol. While these four will be the main characters of Book Club: The Next Chapter, there are a few other supporting actors and actresses who will be joining the cast as well.
The supporting cast of Book Club: The Next Chapter includes Don Johnson, Andy Garcia, Giancarlo Giannini, and Craig T. Nelson amongst others. So it is safe to say that Book Club: The Next Chapter will have an ensemble cast, much like the first movie.

Focus Features recently released the official teaser of Book Club: The Next Chapter, and if that’s the teaser, we are more than ready for the full trailer, which will probably release closer to the 12th of May. We sure hope you are just as excited as we are, so get your visas and tickets ready, because we’re going to Italy in May!
