As we mentioned before, Boston Strangler will be based on true events that took place in the 1960s, in Boston. These murders were popularly known as the silk stocking murders. Before we dive into any details about Boston Strangler, let us take a look at the official synopsis to get a brief understanding of what we can expect from the upcoming true crime thriller:
“Based on the infamous Boston Strangler murders, this is the true story of Loretta McLaughlin, the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed.”
Today, there is a lot of information you can find about the murders that took place in the 1960s in Boston, especially by one notorious serial killer. However, back in the day, it wasn’t paid attention to until Loretta McLaughlin took matters into her own hands, in an attempt to save the lives of several women who were in danger. Boston Strangler’s targets were all women, and his crimes went beyond the murder of these women. He would first sexually violate and abuse these women, and then use his signature move to end their life, aka, straggling them with a stocking.
Boston Strangler will focus on the lives of Loretta McLaughlin and Jean Cole, two women who worked in a male-dominated industry, and how they had to uncover the story of a murderer when no one else would. Today, you might associate Boston with safety, but that wasn’t the case in the 60s, not until these reporters stepped in anyway. It will be interesting to see how McLaughlin and Cole trace and track this notorious serial killer, in turn, saving the lives of several women in Boston, and possibly the whole country.
You can read more about this case on the internet, but the upcoming true crime thriller, Movie, will most definitely provide a different and fresh perspective on everything that went down in the 1960s.
Boston Strangler has a lot of A-list celebrities who are bound to increase the viewership, along with a brilliant story that will capture your attention from start to finish. McLaughlin and Cole will be played by Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon respectively.
