While Steve Rogers aka Chris Evans might have retired as Captain America and from the Marvel Cinematic Universe altogether, the world needs someone to fill in that void, and Steve Rogers picked the perfect man for the job, and it was none other than Sam Wilson, who previously played Falcon.
Captain America: New World Order might not be Sam’s debut as Captain America, but it will give us a deeper insight into how his life in this role is progressing, along with the challenges that he faces, because we know there are several of them.
In Phase 4, we were introduced to one of the best Marvel series to date, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which focussed on Sam and Bucky. Sam was still Falcon for the majority of the episodes and we had a different Captain America, and not a good one.
It was the push Sam needed to finally take on the mantle that he deserved, which now brings us to the fourth Captain America movie, without Steve Rogers, and with Sam Wilson instead.
Here’s everything you need to know about Captain America: New World Order, from the speculated plot to the cast, and much more:
In the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we saw Marvel take a different route as it addressed a very serious issue: racism. When Marvel made the decision of making Sam Wilson Captain America, not everyone was happy about this decision. People expected Captain America to be a white man, with blonde hair, and Sam Wilson was neither.
However, Marvel took the blatant racism and portrayed it in the series in the most brilliant way possible, and Sam Wilson shone through, eventually taking on the mantle, knowing it wasn’t just for him, but also for kids who would grow up to become like him. The series was political and eye-opening, and we are expecting the same from Captain America: New World Order, however, this movie will have a little more action, and we’ll see Sam Wilson tackle a lot more than racism.
While Marvel has kept hush regarding any plot details about Captain America: New World Order, we can see Sam Wilson coming into his own, and possibly creating a team to fight the evil threats that pose against the world. Captain America: New World Order will focus more on the earthly problems as we can let Doctor Strange take care of the multiverse.
One major plot detail that has been rumored, but not yet confirmed, is the return of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Ross isn’t a stranger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has previously appeared in a Captain America movie, which was Captain America: Civil War.
He was also present in a hologram form in Avengers: Infinity War, and has also chased Natasha Romanoff in the movie Black Widow, so it’s safe to say, he won’t be Sam’s best friend or ally in Captain America: New World Order, and if Marvel Studios goes by his character in the comics, Sam Wilson truly has something big and bad coming his way. We will discuss the casting of this character later because that might just blow your mind.
Now, another villain that has absolutely been confirmed by Marvel and has been all the hype, is Samuel Sterns a.k.a. The Leader. The last time we saw this character was back in 2008, in the movie The Incredible Hulk. It will be interesting to see how Ross and Sterns both play a part in Captain America: New World Order, however, we have a feeling Ross will be a secondary or tertiary antagonist and possibly be set up for the Thunderbolts movie, which will be a part of Phase 6. Sam Wilson truly will have a lot at stake this time around.
In an interview with Men’s Journal, Anthony Mackie shed some light upon how Sam Wilson’s Captain America will be very different from Steve Roger’s Captain America. Sam doesn’t have the super soldier serum, he is truly an ordinary man, fighting for ordinary men, and that’s what sets him apart and makes this all the more special. Captain America: New World Order will mainly focus on Sam Wilson; however, we can expect to see other characters, who will be set up for Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Let’s get the elephant out of the room, Chris Evans will not be returning as Captain America and has also made it very clear in this tweet that Sam Wilson is Captain America. Anthony Mackie will be reprising his role as Sam Wilson aka Captain America in Captain America: New World Order, and we can’t wait to see him back on our screens.
Mackie has done a brilliant job playing the role of Sam Wilson and Falcon, but seeing him in his new Captain America suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier got us all excited! Now, apart from Mackie, let’s focus on one of the possible villains of Captain America: New World Order, which is Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Comic fans might also know him as Red Hulk, so you know he is trouble.
This character was previously played by the late William Hurt but is now being replaced by none other than Harrison Ford himself who will be making his debut in the MCU.

While everyone is incredibly excited about Harrison Ford taking on this role, fans are more excited about the aforementioned main villain of Captain America: New World Order, which is The Leader aka Samuel Sterns.
Tim Blake Nelson will be reprising his role as Sterns and this has turned Captain America: New World Order into something a lot bigger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Joining Mackie, Ford, and Nelson, Captain America: New World Order will also feature Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres who is set to take on the role of Falcon in the upcoming movie.
Marvel loves surprising its fans with cameos and characters that are unexpected by the fans and are usually one step ahead with their theories and guesses, and we wanted to chime in too.
It is entirely possible that Captain America: New World Order will see the return of Sharon Carter, Zemo, Bucky Barnes, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and U.S. Agent. These could either appear in the movie or most likely in the post-credit scene, introducing the Thunderbolts.
Since Captain America: New World Order is one of the last installments of phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will not release until 2024. As of now, the movie is slated to release on the 3rd of May, 2024. We know that is a while away, but once you see Captain America on the big screen, fighting some major villains, it will surely be worth the wait. Captain America: New World Order will release in theatres and subsequently on Disney+.
Sadly, there is no trailer for Captain America: New World Order just yet, but there should be one closer to the release date and we will definitely update this section when it happens.
However, you can watch the announcement of Captain America: New World Order and see just how excited the fans are for the upcoming movie.
Captain America: New World Order will open the doors for phase 6 of the MCU, which means it has to be one of the best installments of phase 5, and we have no doubt that it will be.
Do let us know which character you hope will appear in Captain America: New World Order apart from the ones that have already been confirmed.
