What Is The Plot of Champions Movie?
Some of you might be aware of this, while others might not, but Champions is based on the Spanish comedy-drama movie Campeones, and although people frown upon Hollywood for remakes, hopefully, that will not be the case this time around. By the looks of it, the plot of Campeones and Champions will more or less be the same, with maybe a few changes based on the director’s vision, and it will be interesting to see them pan out. The original movie Campeones was inspired by the true events of a Special Olympics team, and it is safe to say the Champions will be following the same direction too. The movie Champions revolves around Marcus, a minor-league basketball coach who has been fired for a misdemeanor and a little car crash, which lands him in community service. Now, Marcus doesn’t have to pick up trash wearing an orange suit, instead, he has to coach. But the catch is, he has to coach adults with intellectual disabilities, and for Marcus, that seems way out of his league, or at least that’s what he thinks at that moment.
Nothing comes easy to anyone at first, and although Marcus has previously coached a basketball team and been very good at it, this is a different ballgame altogether. Adults with learning disabilities aren’t the usual kind with whom Marcus would gel with. He’s an older white man who has never been exposed to a world beyond his little circle. However, as the movie progresses, Marcus manages to coach these adults and does a bloody good job doing it, while also warming up to all of them. There’s laughter, romance, tears, and a whole lot of fun, and will Marcus get his team to the Special Olympics final? It is only a matter of time before we find out!
The Cast of Champions Movie
As we mentioned before, Champions will have an ensemble cast, but the lead character Marcus will be carrying the entire movie, which is why this casting is very important, and the creators have done a brilliant job with it. Marcus will be played by none other than Woody Harrelson. Harrelson is one of the most talented and experienced actors in Hollywood, whom you might recognize from The Hunger Games trilogy, Venom, Now You See Me, and several other movies and tv shows. His career just keeps progressing and it is always a treat to watch him. By the looks of it, Harrelson will be perfect for the role of Marcus. However, he isn’t the only star of the show.
Joining the cast of Champions, we have Ernie Hudson, Matt Cook, Cheech Marin, Kaitlin Olson, Madison Tevlin, Joshua Felder, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, and Matthew Von Der Ahe amongst others. You might recognize some of these talented names, while the others might be fairly new, but they’re all going to be an important part of Champions, and truly are champions too.
When and Where Can You Watch Champions?
Now the wait might feel like a while away, but time is flying and 2022 has almost come to an end. Champions will release on the 24th of March, 2023. Champions will receive the big screen treatment and it makes perfect sense because watching a basketball game and Woody Harrelson on a small screen just isn’t enough. So, make sure you book your tickets and watch Champions in the theatres near you on the 24th of March!
