If you haven’t watched Michael B Jordan’s directorial debut yet, it is safe to say that you are missing out on something brilliant. Creed III recently hit the big screen, and the Rocky saga continues to live on, only this time with a little more blood, a little more fight, and a lot more to look forward to.
When we first talked about Creed III, we knew this movie was going to be a success at the box office, because who doesn’t want to see the return of Adonis Creed? But, this time around, we’re here to tell you that he wasn’t the star of the movie, and we think you know exactly who we are talking about here.
There’s a new guy in Hollywood who has only just started gaining popularity and it was a long time coming. Jonathan Majors isn’t just the new baddie in the Marvel movies but is expanding his career trajectory by playing the titular character of Damian in Creed III. He stole the show.
That’s the simplest way of putting it, but in this review, we will explore his role and importance a little more, so make sure you stick around until the very end.
Jonathan Majors Steals the Show in Creed III, and We Loved Every Second of It!
There is no denying that Michael B. Jordan will always be the heart and soul of Creed III, but we’ll admit, this third installment desperately needed that wow factor that would blow everyone’s mind, and Jonathan Majors was that wow factor.
Before we dive into what we loved about Creed III, let’s summarize the movie and take a look at how Creed III wasn’t just about boxing and winning, but about remembering the past, and looking forward to the future, whatever it may hold.
Creed III begins with a flashback, giving us a glimpse into a young Donnie and his friend Damian, who was more like a brother to him. Admittedly, Damian had a lot more going on for him in terms of boxing as compared to Donnie.
This definitely set the pace to showcase Damian as a talented young man with a lot of potentials, but the gun in the bag also screamed trouble.
Donnie and Damian seemed inseparable, two friends like brothers who had each other’s backs until one day, Donnie didn’t. Damian ended up in prison for nearly two decades after being armed with a weapon while Donnie freed the scene, eventually going on to become the champion, marrying a beautiful woman, and living the life that could have been Damian’s career path, but wasn’t.
Now, Damian is back, and he is adamant to pick up where he left off as if no time had passed. Donnie wants to be there for Damian, but he demands for being put in the ring without any experience over the time he was in prison.
Donnie is set on saying no until circumstances change, and Damian makes his way into the ring, proving to the world that he deserved to be there.
After that match, things escalate between Damian and Donnie, a lot is said and done, and ultimately Donnie knows that there is only one way to stop this man. This leads us to one of the best fights of the franchise and we can assure you that you will either be biting your nails or gripping your seats for this entire fight.
Of course, Donnie won, but that wasn’t the point of the fight. Creed III wasn’t about finding out whether Donnie or Damian was the ultimate champion. This movie was all about getting over guilt, dealing with your emotions, and trying to forgive yourself for a past that couldn’t have been changed.
Donnie and Damian both had a lot to come to terms with, and battle some demons, that’s what they did in Creed III.
When Creed III was announced and the trailers were released, we were convinced that we would hate Damian for the whole movie, but that didn’t happen, and we would love to know whether you felt the same way about this character. Creed III speaks volumes about the justice system in America and the part race plays in it.
Damian was in prison for nearly two decades for the possession of a weapon that he did not even use, but that wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t black and from a less privileged background.
Damian had a lot of justifiable anger in him, which was deep-rooted in the trauma he experienced, and there was no way we could bring ourselves to hate this character.
Jonathan Majors did an exceptional job playing the role of Damian, and he was the star of Creed III. Majors’ most recent performance was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he played the role of Kang the Conqueror.
Again, his performance overpowered Paul Rudd, who was ideally supposed to be the star of his own movie. Undoubtedly, Majors has made a huge mark in Hollywood and the movie industry with just two performances in 2023, and March has only just begun.
We can’t wait to see more of Jonathan Majors this year and in the coming years. It is safe to say, that without Majors, Creed III wouldn’t have been as good as it was. Also, make sure you keep a look out for Jonathan Majors in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty!
While we do give a lot of credit to Majors and his performance, Jordan’s direction and lead performance cannot go amiss, because that’s what everyone came for. Creed III had so many well-structured scenes that made this movie so fun to watch, that we were truly sad when it ended.
Every scene with Donnie, Biance, and Amara was simply beautiful, and if there was ever a movie just the three of them, we would be more than happy to watch it. Tessa Thompson and Michael. B Jordan needs to do more movies together as well because their chemistry is unmatched and deserves to explore a little more.
If you have reached this point of the review, then you already know that we highly recommend you go and watch Creed III, because otherwise, you might just be missing out on one of the most heartfelt yet action-packed movies of 2023.
Creed III was everything we expected it to be, and more. Other than the characters and story, we also loved the music and editing of Creed III, because it definitely put us in a mood and it almost felt like we were right next to the ring, witnessing the best fights of all time. Michael B. Jordan needs to continue being on the director’s chair, and we can’t wait to see what else he comes up with.
Conclusion
Creed III is on our must-watch list for 2023 already, that’s how strongly we feel about this movie.
We would love to know in the comments if you feel the same way and your honest opinion on whether you wanted Donnie or Damian to win that final game!
