2023 is a big year for all streaming services, whether we’re talking about new movies, limited series, or new seasons of some of our favorite shows. While some of these streaming services are keeping things under wraps and releasing titles as they come, Netflix has gone ahead and released a plethora of movie titles that we can expect this year. There are a lot of interesting titles in the mix, and the one that has caught everyone’s eye is Damsel. The genre, the cast, the setting, we just know there’s something epic about to happen.
While not too much has been talked about Damsel just yet, viewers are eager to know more about it. So, we’ve gone ahead and done our research so you don’t have to. Damsel is an upcoming fantasy movie with an incredible cast. This movie will be great for Stranger Things fans who are facing some withdrawal systems from seeing Eleven on their screens as Millie Bobby Brown will appear in Damsel. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Damsel, from the plot to the cast to the release date and much more:

Like we said before, not a lot has been revealed about Damsel just yet, but we’re trying our best to fit the pieces of the puzzle and let you know everything we can gather so far. Let’s take a look at the official synopsis released by Netflix to get a better understanding of the plot of Damsel:
“Brown plays Elodie, who’s anxiously awaiting her wedding to Prince Henry and feeling pressure from her Father, who needs the money her marriage will bring, to be a good, obedient wife. After marrying Henry, Elodie realizes she’s been tricked into becoming a sacrificial offering for a cruel dragon who intends to eat her. Elodie must fight her way out of the dragon’s lair and eventually saves herself by slaying the Dragon.”
We have a lot of feelings after reading this synopsis, and we are more than certain that you do too. It reminds us of two movies, and do let us know if you agree with us in the comments below! Firstly, it sounds something along the lines of Dungeons and Dragons, of course, there won’t be too many dragons in Damsel, or at least that’s what we’re assuming from the synopsis. This also feels like a more serious plot with one character in the limelight, so it will be interesting to see if there are any parallels between the two. The second one and this one might be a little funny or you might just relate the most to it. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Harry had to fight a dragon for his first task. Again, while it isn’t the same thing, it’s giving us a similar theme. However, Harry had his wand and a whole lot of magic, and our damsel will only have her wits and will to survive.
Clearly, she isn’t a damsel in distress, and she’s about to fight her way to prove that, by literally conquering a dragon. Elodie doesn’t need a knight in shining armor to come to save her life, because she’s going to be that for herself. Damsel will be an empowering movie and we can’t wait to learn more about it as the release date approaches closer.
Damsel is set to have a cast filled with a-list actors and actresses and that is all everyone has been talking about. Since not a lot has been revealed about Damsel in terms of story or trailer, people are focusing more on the cast, and honestly, we can’t blame them for that! As we mentioned before, the lead of Damsel and the damsel herself will be none other than Millie Bobby Brown. Brown has truly made a name for herself in Hollywood and all over the world over the last few years and a lot of the credit goes to her role as Eleven in the Stranger Things franchise. We do believe no one other than Brown could perfect this role, and from the glimpses, we have seen so far, we might just be right. So, for those of you who are missing seeing Eleven on Stranger Things this year, Damsel has come to your rescue!
Another brilliant actress who will be joining the cast as Elodie’s stepmother is Angela Bassett. This truly couldn’t have come at a better time, because at the moment, Bassett has been trending all over the internet for her phenomenal performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, for which she has been nominated for several awards and accolades. It will be interesting to see the relationship between Last Bayford (Bassett) and Elodie in the upcoming fantasy movie, Damsel.
Rounding up the cast of Damsel, we have several other talented actors and actresses including Shohreh Aghdashloo, Robin Wright, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter, Ray Winstone, Mens-Sana Tamakloe, Sonya Nisa, and Rui M Tomas.
We are aware that everyone has been waiting for an official release date for Damsel as the shoot began a year ago in February 2022. There finally is a release date and while it isn’t any time soon, Netflix has made sure that their viewers will be entertained in the meantime. Damsel is officially slated to release on the 13th of October, 2023. So, you will have to wait for a few months before you can stream the movie, but it will definitely be worth the wait. Keeping in mind Netflix’s track record, there shouldn’t be any delays in the release of Damsel, so you can go ahead and mark your calendars!
There is no official trailer for Damsel yet, which is another reason why we only have a vague idea about what the movie will entail. However, Netflix did release a little teaser of Damsel along with several other anticipated titles that are set to release in 2023. The teaser showcases Brown as the Damsel and it’s been interesting to see her in a role that isn’t Eleven or Enola, even though we do love those roles. Damsel looks like there has been no expense spared when it comes to set design and production, and we can’t wait to see more of the action in the complete trailer. We can expect the official trailer of Damsel to release sometime in September, and we will make sure this part of the article stays updated when that happens, so make sure you check back with us!
We need more movies with women not damsels in distress, and Damsel is going to be the perfect example of such a movie, and with Brown as the lead, it is bound to be a success. Do let us know in the comments what you think of Damsel so far!
