Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California. He briefly lived in Auckland, New Zealand, as a child. He stayed with his mother’s family and played rugby while attending Richmond Road Primary School. His family moved around quite a bit, so he attended schools all over the place, including North Carolina, Connecticut, Hawaii, and Tennessee, before finally graduating from Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1990. While at Freedom High School, he played football and was a member of both the wrestling team and the track and field team. He competed as a member of the wrestling team, but he was offered a full athletic scholarship from the University of Miami. While at the University of Miami, Johnson was a member of the Miami Hurricanes football team. He graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of General Studies and a dual major in physiology and criminology.
