OPEN Media Hub

The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.

1.  Learn the Basics of Video Production

The aim of this course is to ensure that participants have a basic working knowledge of video theory and broadcast production equipment and that they understand the minimal technical requirements for Open Media Hub productions. 2. Advance your Filming and Editing Skills

This Camerawork and Editing course has been developed to provide all the information needed to produce dynamic and engaging video stories for broadcast and online.  The course author and OPEN Media Hub trainer Simon Hustings covers a wide range of topics related to shooting and editing with in-depth looks at key parts of the process including sequences, interviews, stand ups and tips on best use of common editing applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro & Final Cut Pro. You will find plenty of practical tips and advice throughout the course which has been designed to help you take your shooting and editing to the next level.

3. Create Attractive Digital Content

If you’re working in print or broadcast media and you need to adapt to online journalism, then this course is for you.  And even if you’re already working in online media, this course will refresh your skills and improve your understanding of the principles and best practices of producing online stories. The aim of the course is to guide participants step by step through a range of practical online media skills, story formats and creative tools to get started producing online stories. Guy Degen, OPEN Media Hub trainer and master of digital media creation leads this engaging and practical course intended for everyone asiring to develop attractive online content.

4. Master Advanced Storytelling Tools

This course is introducing new creative formats such as  square video, 360 degree video, “texting” stories, GIFs and more used in storytelling and explains how to plan a story and adapt journalist’s scripts and multimedia content to reach wider and more diverse audiences. The course leads the users step by step through the skills and equipment journalists will need to produce stories in these new formats, and what will be the best platforms to use for each of them. 5. Refining the Edit

This course will provide you with practical tips to deal with video and audio issues in Final Cut Pro X and Premiere Pro. If you use a different editing software do not despair as the core principles will remain the same. The course is led by Simon Hustings, OPEN Media Hub video production expert.
