Elizabeth Olsen is one of the most well-known American actresses today. She has been in the business for almost thirty years, since the time she was four years old! She has taken on roles in dramas and comedies and has acted in films and television and on stage. Her career has been full of interesting parts and opportunities that show her talent and versatility.
You might know her as Wanda Maximoff or Scarlett Witch since her role in the MCU has become incredibly popular, and by that, we mean that almost everyone wants to dress up as the Scarlett Witch for Halloween! However, there is a lot more to her than her role in Marvel, and we’ve got you covered!
Elizabeth Olsen’s exact net worth is unknown, but it is reported to be about $11 million. It’s safe to say that the majority of her fortune has come from her time portraying Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given that her role has been a supporting one so far in the films, her salary is probably much less than that of her costars, but she probably made much more for starring in WandaVision, the Disney+ series.
We’re sure the balance in her bank account will only continue to increase as she is set to star as housewife Candy Montgomery in Love and Death, an HBO Max limited series about a 1980 murder in Texas.
Elizabeth Chase Olsen was born on February 16, 1989, in Sherman Oaks, California. She began acting at the age of four, following in the footsteps of her older twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley. She appeared in several of their projects, including their straight-to-video series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley and the 1994 television film, How the West Was Fun. She took acting classes and went to theatre camp, but she almost gave up acting when older sister Mary-Kate was bombarded by the media as the truth about her eating disorder came to light.
Olsen decided to pursue acting, though, and attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While a student, she spent a semester at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia and also took classes at Atlantic Theater Company, a non-profit off-Broadway theater. She was an understudy in the 2008 off-Broadway production of the play Dust and the 2009 Broadway production of the play Impressionism. These roles helped her to land an agent, and she eventually graduated from New York University in 2013.
Olsen has acted in over 20 films and appeared in several television series. Most notably, she has portrayed Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She will continue to voice the role in the next season of Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+. She was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for the role on WandaVision. She was also the executive producer and starred in the Facebook Watch series Sorry for Your Loss for two seasons.
Olsen’s father, Dave, is a real estate agent, and her mother, Jarnie, is a former dancer. Her older twin sisters are none other than Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Mary-Kate and Ashley got their start at nine months old when they were cast in the role of Michelle Tanner on the hit ‘80s and ‘90s sitcom, Full House.
The twins went on to build a media empire of their own, including a production company DualStar, under which they released numerous children’s films. They also starred in the sitcoms Two of a Kind and So Little Time in the 2000s. Currently, the twins have a lifestyle brand, Elizabeth & James, and a fashion line, The Row. Neither of them continues to act at this time.
The sisters have an older brother, Trent, as well as two younger half-siblings, Taylor and Jake, from their father’s second marriage. Trent has written several comics and currently works in film production. We don’t know much about Courtney, but she has dabbled in acting, as well. Jake has worked as a model in the past, but not much is known about his current career.
Olsen has kept her personal and romantic life considerably private. In 2012, she was rumored to have dated Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård when he was 35 and she was 23, but not much else is known about the relationship. Next, she was in a confirmed relationship with American actor Boyd Holbrook, whom she met on the set of the film Very Good Girls.
It was rumored they were engaged in 2014, but Olsen ended the relationship in 2015. She was reported to have casually dated her Marvel costar Tom Hiddleston shortly after the break-up with Holbrook, as the two were reportedly seen together after working on the musical I Saw the Light. They were only together for a few months.
Olsen is married to musician Robbie Arnett, who is part of the American indie pop band Milo Greene. They began dating in 2017 after meeting on vacation in Mexico. They moved in together in 2018 and became engaged in 2019. They secretly eloped in 2020, just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and did not confirm this until 2022.
Throughout her career, Elizabeth Olsen has worked on some incredible projects. She has made a name for herself separate from her older sisters, and we are so excited to see what’s next for her!
If you only know her from her involvement with Marvel, check out I Saw the Light, a biographical musical about American country music star Hank Williams, or Ingrid Goes West, a dark comedy about a mentally unstable woman living in Pennsylvania.
