The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.
On September 25th , 26th and 27th 2017 the OPEN Media Hub is organising an Advanced Broadcast Training for journalists and producers of Lebanese media with renowned broadcast journalist trainer Sofia Amara. Ms Amara is an award-winning documentary author and works for France 2 Envoyé Spécial, Canal+, Arte and France 24.
The Advanced Broadcast Training session will cover news production orientated courses designed to improve independent and objective reporting and to expand industry relevant skills notably through: reporting, storytelling, narration. The Workshop will aim to produce stories by putting into practice the skills set in real time for real output.
The Advanced Broadcast Training session will have a special focus on the following themes; Investigative Reporting: the storytelling and narration process that it involves. How and what to film, how to illustrate an investigative story
Through the specific formats described below, applicants to participate in the workshop should suggest 3 stories, on topical subject that are of interest to them, with a wider impact regionally. These stories are to be submitted and discuss and prepared ahead of the training with Thomson Foundation expert trainer Sophia Amara:
The“BEING 20” story can be done by the journalist answering the questions him/herself, or interviewing one or several youths. Possible questions might include:
The participants are asked to write their proposal in the online application form below and discuss them remotely with the trainer Sophia Amara ahead of the training. These stories can be pre-shot, and journalists will then have 3 days to work on the story, shooting, editing, finalise the scripting on the 25th / 26th / 27th September. These stories will then be broadcast by their authors and also made available on the OPEN Media Hub’s Content Exchange Platform, for exchange between the participants locally and regionally.
