The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.
On March 22-23,2017 the OPEN Media Hub is organising a Master Class in Media Management for Broadcast Media from Lebanon.
The Master Class will have a special focus on management and development in a highly competitive environment.
It will cover news management and transformation, the digital revolution, reputation management and positioning, editorial integrity, multi-platform content, giving broadcasters the trade skills they need to expand their audiences across converged platforms.
Meet the trainer:
From 2015 to 2016 Al was the Chief Executive Officer of Al Jazeera America, overseeing the business and editorial operations for the U.S. cable news channel that covered both domestic and international news across multiple digital platforms based in New York.
Al joined Al Jazeera English in Qatar in 2005 and held a range of leadership positions with the organisation. From 2010 to 2015, Al served as managing director. As MD he led the channel and oversaw its day-to-day operations across its 65 international bureaus. Previously, he was the director of news where he was in charge of the editorial content and news division. Al was a key member of the start-up team of Al Jazeera English that designed the editorial vision, recruited its editorial staff, and set up the channel’s worldwide bureau network.
During his tenure as managing director of Al Jazeera English, the channel became a leader in international news, winning various awards including an International Emmy and the Royal Television Society News “Channel of the Year.” Under Al’s leadership the channel reached over 250 million households in more than 130 countries.
Prior to joining Al Jazeera, Al was the Head of Foreign News at ITN in the United Kingdom. Before that, he served as the Asia Editor for APTN and was responsible for the bureaus and news coverage across the continent, and served as Senior Producer in both New Delhi and Sydney. He also worked for Reuters in in the UK, and began his career as a producer at CBS News.
All has lived and worked in Asia, America, Europe and the Middle East.
