On 14-16 and 18-20 September 2017 the Open Media Hub is organising an In-Depth Broadcast training for 10 journalists and cameramen from Armenian media. Stephane Bentura, a senior reporter and a documentary film maker with years of experience in former Soviet Union, the US and France, Simon Hustings, a senior cameraman and editor trainer, Armenian media expert Nina Iskandaryan and the OPEN Media Hub Senior producer Anthony Headley will be leading this In-depth broadcast training.
The In-Depth Broadcast training class is a 6-day course (split in two 3-days sessions), that will cover news production; editorial / filming skills – writing and editing skills course, designed to improve independent and objective reporting, tips to expand industry interest and skills in covering and illustrating complex story. This workshop will be aimed to producing stories, by putting into practice the skills set in real time for real output for the media outlets of the participants and sharing them on the OPENMediaHub Content Exchange Platform.
A special focus will be given to the challenges and skills for investigative journalism. Ahead of the 6-day course, participants will be requested to pitch the subject, story line and angles of stories to be discussed and selected. We will be looking for editorially relevant stories for your outlet and pertinent formats for your news broadcast. The aim is to produce appealing and informative visual stories.
The second aspect of the training will focus on a strand called “Being 20” (video stories of 1’30’’ to 1’45’’ minutes). Developed and produced by the Open Media Hub, “Being 20” is a series of short stories depicting the life and aspirations of the youth in the European Neighbourhood countries. It may then be used by all the participating media outlets either as a single story or potentially as a series, as we will be developing this strand throughout the 17 European neighbouring countries where we are working. These stories will also be integrated in a specific upcoming call for production (where we will finance and provide guidance to the production of these stories).
The participants will be asked to prepare the stories ahead of the training in liaison and under the guidance of the OPEN Media Hub trainer consultant Stephane Bentura. During the training the participating crews are asked to provide their filming and editing gear.
