The Project OPEN Media Hub: Networking, on-the-job training and support to media professionals across the EU Neighbourhood area (EuropeAid/136510/DH/SER/Multi) is part of the European Union Programme OPEN Neighbourhood: opportunities, participation, engagement and networking” and is implemented by a consortium led by Thomson Foundation. The Consortium includes Action Global, European Journalism Centre, Free Press Unlimited, France Médias Monde, Ipsos Mori and Particip. The OPEN Media Hub project follows up on two previous EU funded projects – the Media Neighborhood and the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.
On 15-17 October 2018 , the OPEN Media Hub is organising a 3-day workshop on Telling an Impactful Story on EU Issues for TV and online journalists. The course will focus on editorial, writing and editing skills.
During the course, participating journalists will focus on producing in real time, with existing materials available online and in country, a story with a specific angle on an EU-funded project or activity. They will produce appealing and informative stories editorially relevant to their outlets in a format pertinent for news broadcasts. The stories will be broadcast/published on the outlets and will be made available on the Open Media Hub’s platform and website, for exchange between participants locally and internationally.
These editorial sessions are conceived to build, enhance the skills of the media professionals and their outlets. It will empower them to understand the basics of EU decision making and encourage participants to embed EU coverage as an editorial strand of their content with a practical approach to identify relevant elements and sources of information, data, video. And understanding of the resources available to tell a story on a project funded by the European Union, to produce both broadcast and on-line outputs as part of the practical implementation of the workshop.
The trainer will be Elena Gabrielian of RFI with local support by media expert Nina Iskandaryan.
The course will include identifying the available online remote and local resources for covering EU related stories, with hands on Follow the Money exercise. Journalists will pitch a story to be selected to attend, on topics and themes based on country projects and priorities. During the training, participating crews are asked to provide their own filming and editing gear.
