Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill was born May 5th, 1983, in Saint Helier, Jersey, the largest of the British Channel Islands. He attended St. Michael’s Preparatory School in his hometown, then Stowe School in Buckinghamshire. When he was 16 years old, he met actor Russell Crowe, who was shooting Proof of Life on location at Stowe. Crowe shared some acting tips with the young Cavill, and the two later worked together on Man of Steel.
He first appeared in Kevin Reynolds’ adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo in 2002. He appeared in several projects for the BBC, including the series Midsomer Murders and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. He had supporting roles in Tristan & Isolde and the animated musical Red Riding Hood as the Hunter. Cavill’s first big break came in 2007 when he was cast in the leading role of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, on Showtime’s series The Tudors.
