How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 1: It Couldn’t Get More Dramatic Than This, or Could It?
When we last spoke about How I Met Your Father Season 2, we guessed that Episode 1 would most likely pick up from where the finale of the previous season left off, and this seemed like the best possible option because a time skip would leave too many unnecessary gaps and unanswered questions this early into a show. Judging by the first episode, not having a time skip has been the best decision because it leads us to one of the best episodes of the show so far. How I Met Your Father Season 2 has started off on a strong note, and hopefully, they maintain this pace for the rest of the season and don’t take any steps back.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 1 started with a little recap for all the fans who needed to jog their memory as if they hadn’t rewatched the episodes recently (yes, that includes us too). After the recap, we are back at the gallery opening where Ian and Sophie meet once again after Sophie has had the craziest 48 hours in regard to her love life. It can’t possibly be easy breaking up with the perfect boyfriend and then going on a date with the guy you never gave a chance, sleeping with him, and eventually walking away from him after a premature sleepy love confession. To top it all off, Jesse got back together with his ex, and Drew got a horrendous tan, but more on that later. Sophie clearly had a lot going on, but she figured things couldn’t get any worse if she gave Ian a shot, after all, he was the one that got away. But clearly, things could get worse, and they did.
As the episode progresses, Hannah and Sid try and throw a party to celebrate their marriage at the bar, but things don’t really go as planned. The whole group is given certain jobs to make this party work, but almost none of them succeed at it. Jesse and Ellen have a little brother-sister talk where Jesse tells her that he’ll be going on tour with his ex, leaving a disgruntled Ellen whose abandonment issues have been triggered once again. Meanwhile, Sophie is peacefully trying to have a drink with Ian, while trying to keep a romantic recent past under wraps, but that doesn’t happen when Drew shows up to the party, high on painkillers and very drunk. Clearly out of everyone, Drew was taking this break-up exceptionally hard with his crazy tan and white teeth. Sophie tried everything in her power to try and keep Drew, Jesse, and Ian away from each other, in fact, she even sang a song, again, that didn’t go too well either. As we said, this episode was chaotic, but that’s what made it so much fun.
Of course, we haven’t forgotten about the fan favorites Charlie and Valentina, who had their own thing going on in this episode. From announcing their breakup to the entire group to ending the night with the sex tape, they somehow stayed on the sidelines of the episode and still made themselves known every few minutes, and that’s what we love about them. Their future is uncertain, but at the moment, both of them have decided to remain platonic friends, but we know that’s not going to last for very long. Despite spending a lot of time with Charlie, Valentina continued being a brilliant friend to Sophie, and we love seeing strong female friendships, it reminded us a little of Lily and Robin, only in this case, neither of them has a stable romantic life.
Towards the end, we realize that Jesse has in fact decided to go on tour with his ex, but it is only for a month. Sophie has turned down Ian because she realizes that she might just be in love with Jesse. The future is uncertain, but maybe this time around they might just do a time skip, which leads us to the next section of the article.
What Can You Expect from How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 2
It is clear that this review isn’t spoiler free, which leads us to one of the most exciting cameos in How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 1, and it is none other than Neil Patrick Hariss himself, aka Barney Stinson. If you have watched How I Met Your Mother, you know exactly who we are talking about. Sophie bumps into him in an unsavory way when she crashes her car into his, and that’s pretty much all we know so far. It is unclear if Barney will appear in How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 2, or in future episodes, but we will surely be seeing more of him. As for the next episode, which is less than a week away, we can either expect a one-month time skip to Jesse’s tour ending, and then see where the show takes us, and if Jesse and Sophie will consider exploring what they once had. Or, the next episode could pick up right after, maybe it will show Jesse leaving for the tour and Sophie questioning everything about her love life. However, what we do know is that she hasn’t hit rock bottom just yet.
We are intrigued to see what else happens in How I Met Your Father Season 2, especially with all the other characters, and not just Sophie and Jesse. So we highly recommend streaming this season and not skipping it, because you would be missing out on a lot of fun!
