When How I Met Your Father was first announced, people had mixed feelings about it. Some were excited about a spin-off of their favorite sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, and others weren’t so sure anything could live up to the original sitcom.
Now that How I Met Your Father is on its second season, viewers are warming up to it and why wouldn’t they? The show is absolutely hilarious with some brilliant characters, storylines, and comedic timings. Now, How I Met Your Father Season 2 has five episodes, and the most recent episode has to be the funniest one so far, so we had to go ahead and review it.
This review will focus on How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 which is titled “Ride or Die”. There were several moments in this episode that we loved, and we are just glad that the gang is back together.
This review will contain some spoilers so we recommend proceeding with caution unless you have already watched the episodes. We would also recommend watching the first four episodes for some context about what’s been happening.

Meddling Friends, Meddling Parents, and Mending Relationships
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 was all about meddling and even though that might not be our favorite thing in the whole world, it did make for a great episode, and without a doubt, this was our favorite episode of How I Met Your Father Season 2 so far, and that’s saying something because this season has had some great episodes. Let’s walk you through the episode and what we loved about it the most.
First of all, the guest appearances and cameos are getting better and better as the episodes go by. How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 had a blast from the past, Sandy Rivers! For those of you who don’t recognize, you need to go ahead and watch How I Met Your Mother to catch a better glimpse of Rivers.
He wasn’t the only guest appearance in this episode. We also saw Val’s parents who make a very attractive couple, and why wouldn’t they? Mark Consuelos and Constance Marie play the role of her very meddling parents. Hopefully, we get to see more of them in the coming episodes.
Now that we have mentioned Val, let’s start with Sophie and Val’s subplot in How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5. While they are out ready for Jesse’s gig, Sophie plans a lunch with Val’s parents, because they have clearly been more in touch with Sophie than their own daughter.
Val is apprehensive about seeing her parents because every time she goes over, they try and set her up with someone. However, this time around, Val’s parents have invited a man over, but for Sophie instead. This made Val feel a certain way, especially when she saw Sophie and the new man, Oscar, hit it off. Could a man cause a drift between two best friends?
It seems unlikely, but we will let you watch the episode to find out exactly how this entire event plays out because this subplot has been narrated brilliantly throughout the episode. We won’t spoil the whole story for you, but let’s just say Sophie and Val are definitely each other’s ride-or-die!
Moving along to the other pair of best friends who had a little drift in the last episode, Jesse and Sid. In this case, we had to side with Sid in the last episode because he was simply trying to help Jesse out, who was too blinded by love to realize that his ex was still horrible to him.
We all could see it, but Jesse couldn’t. This episode showcased Jesse finally coming to his senses, with a lot of help from his sister Ellen, and some credit should go to Charlie for his efforts to bring Sid and Jesse together, even though his plan didn’t go as he hoped. Nevertheless, this subplot of How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 also made for some brilliant comedic moments.
For example, Sid being home alone and having to spend a day by himself didn’t go as smoothly as he hoped. Turns out, Sid alone with his thoughts isn’t the best combination in the world.
But the highlight of this episode has to be Sid and Jesse reuniting and us being introduced to the 2020s bro dialect. Men often exchange a lot of emotions through simple words like “bro” or “dude” or even silences that convey more than words ever could.
Just like that, Sid and Jesse reunite with the help of minimal words, but with the help of subtitles, we got to know exactly what they were thinking about, and it made for some heartwarming and hilarious comedy.
We are more than thrilled that the creators haven’t stretched their argument for more than one episode, because we did get to witness some dragged-out fights in How I Met Your Mother.
These were only some of the highlights of How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5, but there is a lot more to look forward to, and if you have already watched the episode, then you know exactly what we’re talking about.
It will be interesting to see how the season moves forward now that Meredith is out of the picture, or at least that’s what we’re hoping for. Will Jesse and Sophie get another chance to rekindle their romance, or is Sophie going to pursue Oscar who promised he would drop her text?
Also, what about Charlie and Val? Val has some feelings for Charlie, who seems to have moved on, or maybe that is just a pretense. We will have to watch the rest of the episodes to find out more about what’s going to happen in the second half of the season.
