The Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2008, with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. The Iron Man trilogy is still one of the most popular parts of the Marvel franchise, and this character has appeared in several other movies across the MCU until Tony Stark’s sad demise in Avengers: Endgame. Tony sacrificed himself in order to save the world, leaving broken hearts all across the globe. Till today, Marvel has seen the death of several characters, but none has been as sad as Iron Man. Fans were convinced that this was it for his legacy until Marvel Studios introduced Ironheart, aka Riri Williams.
Although Ironheart hasn’t appeared in the Marvel comics in the last few years, Marvel Studios felt like it would be a good decision to introduce her in the movies instead, maybe in the hopes of building a character as great as Iron Man, so she definitely has a whole to live up to. Riri Williams has already made an appearance in the MCU, but we’ll discuss more about that later. For now, we are about to tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart, from the potential plot, to the cast, to the release date and more:

Firstly, before we dive into the potential plot of Ironheart. Let’s discuss Riri Williams’ first appearance and how that might shape her character in the upcoming series, Ironheart. We got to witness Riri and her genius mind very recently in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. By the looks of it, she is sassy, funny, and dangerously smart. Fans saw a lot of Tony Stark in her, however, it is important to note that they are not related in any way. Riri managed to get everyone’s attention in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, despite the movie focussing on Letitia Wright, Tenoch Huerta, and their characters. However, the tone for her character has been set, and just how tech savvy she is.
Moving along to the plot, the Ironheart series could be an origin story for how Riri became Ironheart, while also dealing with the aftermath of what happens to her character Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as more people are now aware of her presence. Marvel has also confirmed the villain in Ironheart, and it is none other than Parker Robbins aka The Hood, who gives villains like Kingpin a run for their money. Now although The Hood is a brilliant marksman, and has his training in hand-to-hand combat, a lot of his powers lie in magic and mysticism. So, from what we can tell, the series Ironheart will have a theme of magic versus tech. Think, Doctor Strange versus Tony Stark, but on a more serious note, and not just Tony making fun of Strange’s cloak, you know?
Other plot details of Ironheart have been kept under wraps and for good reason. However, we’re certain the series will tell us more about what Riri Williams is capable of, and people are wondering that her tech might be more advanced and powerful than Tony Stark’s and that’s saying something!
There is no doubt that the star of the series will be Ironheart herself, aka Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne, who has already made her debut in the MCU. Thorne hasn’t been around in the industry for long but has already gotten signed on by Marvel, which means her career trajectory is about to shoot up from here on. Apart from Thorne, fans have been curious to know who will play the role of Parker Robbins aka The Hood, and it is none other than Anthony Ramos. For those of you who don’t know Ramos, who is a talented actor and singer, and most recently appeared in the 2021 film In the Heights, for which he gained a lot of popularity. It will be interesting to see Thorne and Ramos put against each other and watch their dynamic unfold in the upcoming series, Ironheart.
Other than Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos, other cast members who will be joining Ironheart are Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, Harper Anthony, Shea Couleé (yes! The Shea from Ru Paul’s drag race, big ups to Marvel for the diversification and representation!), Regan Aliyah, and Shakira Barrera amongst others. As of now, we are unclear about who will play what character in the upcoming series, but we are assuming they will comprise Riri’s friends, families, allies, and potential enemies.
Now we know Marvel loves its cameos, and Marvel knows how much fans love them too. It is possible that we might see Shuri appear in this series very briefly, maybe when Riri needs some advice because in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri did serve as a sister and protector to Riri. One cameo that the fans would love to see but is nearly impossible is that of Robert Downey Jr. Unless it is a flashback or a dream sequence, we don’t see this being a possibility, especially since Downey’s run with Marvel has come to an end. But we’ll admit, it would be very cool.
As with all the other Marvel Studios series, Ironheart will also be available to watch on Disney+ with weekly releases of all episodes. We’re estimating that there will be 6-8 episodes based on the previous series, but we are leaning more toward 6. There is no concrete release date for Ironheart just yet, but it is going to be a part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means it will release sometime in the fall of 2023,
As of now, there is no trailer for Ironheart just yet, but you can watch one of her most fun scenes from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right here. Hopefully, a trailer will be followed after the release date for Ironheart is announced, and we will make sure we keep you posted!
We know everyone misses Iron Man and has for a very long time now. No one can fill the Tony-shaped hole in everyone’s heart, but it’s time we make some room for Ironheart because with her tech and armor, she will be just as good as Iron Man, if not better, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for her character.
