In 1978, Curtis made her film debut as Laurie Strode in the classic horror movie Halloween. Producer Debra Hill cast Curtis because her mother, also an actress, was known for her roles in horror films.

Halloween was a box office success, and Curtis’ performance led to her being cast in several other horror movies.
