Justified: City Primeval Season 2 has to be the hottest topic on FX now. After the titillating show that was season one, everyone is looking forward to Justified: City Primeval Season 2.
It was a revival show, and the original Justified series actually aired in 2010. It had a successful run of six seasons before it came to a halt in 2015. Based on a book by Elmore Leonard, the show follows Raylan Givens, portrayed by Timothy Olyphant, a modern western cowboy-esque lawman who deals with criminal Clement Mansell.
While many saw the revival as a standalone story contained in season 1 itself, it has subtly left many open plot points for a potential season 2.
After the showdown in the finale, where Mansell dies a brutal death by Raylan, the show introduces a new character, Boyd Crowder, played by Walton Goggins. So far in the series, Raylan Givens has been the only main protagonist, but the show changes that with the introduction of Crowder, and the story gets even more interesting.
Boyd Crowder is the arch-nemesis of Givens for the better part of the Justified series, like Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes. When the audience sees him in the episode “The Question” he is still rotting in prison. However, Justified: City Primeval ends with Boyd breaking out of prison and Givens getting a call informing him that he is out there now.
Series executive producer and co-showrunner Michael Dinner told the media that it is up to FX if they want to continue telling the story of Justified: City Primeval Season 2 since it was originally conceived as a miniseries. However, even if it does not get renewed, he would feel happy about giving the audience a solid ending with season 1.
However, there are many questions that remain unresolved. Will Raylan Givens forget about all the promises he made to his daughter and again go out on the streets to hunt a criminal? Is Boyd Crowder worthy of redemption, or does he deserve the same fate as Mansell?
There is also plenty of source material to borrow from, as the eminent crime writer has written many books that are yet to be on screen, including Edgar Award-winning LaBrava.
There is still hope for the audience. There are two reasons. First is the current trend of revivals being multi-season shows themselves due to their success (For example Just Like That from Sex and the City and Star Trek: Picard from the original 90s Star Trek show).
The second is Michael Dinner’s diplomatic answer, which hints that if FX gives the green light, the creative minds behind the show are ready to produce another banger of a season.
Although there is no official news about Justified: City Primeval season 2 and its cast, if a renewal is on the cards, there is a surefire chance of Timothy Olyphant returning as Raylan Givens.
It is also possible that due to the complex father-daughter dynamic that can be coming in Justified: City Primeval season 2, Vivian Olyphant would reprise the role of Raylan’s daughter. However, any other characters are probably unlikely to return.
While talking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olyphant said he felt like cast members would be expanded as new members might get introduced in Justified: City Primeval season 2. However, he also added that it depends on the show getting a second season at the end of the day.
All of the episodes of Justified: City Primeval season 1 are available to watch on streaming platforms like Spectrum TV, Hulu, Vudu, Prime Video, or Apple TV on the Roku device. Fans can enjoy season 1 while waiting for Justified: City Primeval season 2 to come back to FX.
