Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 has won the hearts of millions of readers and as of now, nine tankobon volumes have been collected so far. Production IG has already shared a short teaser, which indicates that the anime is under work.

Kaiju No. 8 Setting
The story of Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world full of monsters named Kaiju, the monsters keep wreaking havoc and disasters which have led Japan to become the target of Kaiju attacks. To combat these humongous monsters Japan established Anti Kaiju Defense Force, whose sole task is to eliminate Kaijus. Kaijus have been rated according to their strength levels. The dangerous and huge beasts are called Honju while the smaller ones are called Konju. Smaller Kaiju usually sprout from Honjus.
Kaiju with enormous power and abnormal characteristics are classified as Daikaju. I know, too many classifications right? Reminds of animal kingdom classification I guess? Anti Defense Officers wear suits made of Kaiju’s remains which grants them enhanced speed, strength, and durability. These suits can also shoot power output which is termed unleashed combat power. People with more than 90% combat power have higher in the army.
Kaiju No. 8 Plot
Have you ever watched your loved ones die before your eyes? If yes then you will be able to empathize with Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro who lost their friends and loved ones when they were just kids.
Suffering from such loss, made them strong and determined to join the Anti-Kaiju forces to protect others like them. Mina became the captain of the Defense Force’s Third Division while Kafka kept failing the exams and ended up as a clean-up crew who disposes of Kaiju after battles.
One day, a small Kaiju invades Kafka’s body and he gains the ability to turn into Kaiju. He runs away from the Defense faction and gets named “Kaiju No.8”, yes that’s where the manga’s name came from. Soon Kafka re-applies for the exam and gets selected, to find out what happens next you must wait for the release of the anime as we do not want to spoil all the fun for you.

Soshiro Hoshina
Deputy Commander of the 3rd Unit of the Japan Defense Force. A family of monster subjugation that has continued since the Muromachi period. He is a katana specialist, capable of subjugating small to medium-sized monsters even surpassing Captain Mina Ajiro.
Kikoru Shinomiya
A super-elite who graduated from an overseas subjugation university by skipping grades and is said to be the greatest talent in history, the only daughter of Isao Shinomiya, the director of the Japanese Defense Corps. She has exceptional taste and even before her enlistment, she boasted strength at the level of a platoon leader.
Ichikawa Reno
A young man who aspires to be a defense force member joined Monster Sweeper as a part-time worker. At first, he looked at the frustrated Kafka with cold eyes, but he came to respect his personality.
Ajiro Mina
Commander of the 3rd Unit of the Japan Defense Force, Kafka’s childhood friend. At the young age of 27, she has subjugated hundreds of monsters and boasts top-class popularity and ability among all her captains. She is good at handling sniper weapons and specializes in subjugating large monsters.
