Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Plot
A girl named Kaina lives in world of organic membranes called Canopy created by massive orbital spire trees. Humans are closer to extinction in the settings and water is scarce. A little far beneath the canopy, at the foot of trees lies the endless Snow Sea, where Princess Ririha and her country barely survive against the cold and rival countries.
There’s a legend that a sage knows how to produce abundant water but that is yet to be discovered by mortals. Ririha travels on top of the canopy using a hot air balloon in search of a way to save her country and gets rescued by Kaina.
Although Ririha fails to find a sage her meeting with Kaina makes Ririha eager to explore the surface of the world. As they explore the surface world the bitter truth of antagonistic technology, wars, politics, etc makes their journey challenging.

Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Short Review
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea story is an interesting and unique experience, although the story is not up to the level the world-building is mind-blowing. I will be honest I watched the series without looking at the trailer because the cover looked compelling. Plus the show’s point of view was different than the usual anime shows and was not a cliche.
The first episode mocks the world and presents a unique point of view which makes the viewers continue watching further. The weird maze-like forest is sure to remind you of Made in Abyss or One Piece. The anime seems exotic, real, and packed with adventures. The world and environment are its strongest points I would say.
The CGI is decent but, the music makes it enjoyable and bearable if you are looking for some original story. If you want to enjoy the anime then ignore the CGI part because at least they tried. Lastly, the characters are decent with strong foundations but not powerful or super good-looking like Gojou, Levi, or Eren.
Conclusion
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea has a 6.7-star rating in MAL as of March 2023, which makes it below average. I think it’s a good anime that deserves at least a 7-star rating. Moreover, unlike complicated pasts or history in major fantasy anime, the only thing that saves it from mediocrity is curiosity about the world.
