If you grew up in the late 1990s or early 2000s, then there is no doubt you know exactly who Lindsay Lohan is. She was a Disney dream, starring in iconic films like The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Every teenage girl wanted to be her, and considering her far-reaching, multifaceted career, we certainly can understand why.
Since her first major film in over ten years, Falling for Christmas, recently dropped on Netflix, we thought we’d take a look back at her life and career and fill you in on everything you need to know about Lindsay Lohan!
Lohan’s net worth has been on somewhat of a roller coaster ride through the years. Although the 36-year-old actress has made over $28 million from movies alone in her career, spanning across more than three decades, her history of legal troubles, personal issues, and once-reckless spending has made a sizeable dent in the money she actually has today. Lohan owed $233,000 in federal back taxes from 2009-2010, which led to the IRS seizing her bank accounts in December 2012, and reportedly has spent over $300,000 in attorney fees. As her struggles with drug and alcohol use came to light, she also began to earn less and less.
At the height of her spending, she was rumored to have a $40,000 tanning salon bill and a $46,000 hotel bill from Chateau Marmont. All things considered, it should come as no surprise that her current estimated net work is only $1.5 million. But things are looking up for Lindsay! She recently inked a Netflix deal to star in several films, and she is the owner of Lohan Beach House Mykonos, a resort on the eponymous Greek island. Additionally, her husband’s net worth is estimated to be around $100 million, not bad at all if you ask us!
Lindsay Dee Lohan was born on July 2, 1988, in the Bronx borough of New York City, and grew up in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island, New York. She began working as a child model with Ford Models at the age of three, booking ads for Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie. She also appeared in over 60 television commercials for brands like Pizza Hut and Jell-O. At age 10, she had her first big break when she won the role of Alexandra “Alli” Fowler on the soap opera Another World. The job that propelled her to stardom, though, was the dual role of Hallie Parker and Annie James in Disney’s The Parent Trap in 1998. She starred in several films for The Walt Disney Company, including the made-for-TV movies Life-Size with supermodel Tyra Banks and Get a Clue.
In 2003, Lohan starred in another Disney remake, Freaky Friday, alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. She even learned to play guitar and recorded a song for the film, which led to a five-album record deal. In 2004, her most memorable film, Mean Girls, was released, marking her first step away from Disney and making her a household name. Her debut album, Speak, was released on December 2004, and her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), was released a year later. Lohan briefly returned to Disney to star in Herbie: Fully Loaded, garnering mixed reviews. She starred in several other films over the next few years, but as her partying and substance abuse issues came to light, it became more and more difficult for her to secure work. Over the next several years, Lohan lost out on several roles as she was in and out of rehab and productions considered her to be an insurance risk.
Thankfully, Lohan seems back on track in recent years. In 2016, she opened a nightclub in Athens, Greece, and in May 2018, she opened a resort on the Greek island of Mykonos. In October 2021, she signed up with Studio71 to launch a new podcast, The Lohdown with Lindsay Lohan, which premiered in April 2022. Most recently, she starred in the Netflix film Falling for Christmas, and she is slated to star in another romantic comedy for Netflix, Irish Wish, which is scheduled to release in 2023.
Lohan is the eldest of four siblings. She has two brothers, Michael and Dakota, and a sister, Aliana. Her parents are Dina, a former actress and dancer, and Michael, a former Wall Street trader. She has three half-siblings on her father’s side from his second and third marriages – Ashley, Landon, and Logan. Dina served as her daughter’s “momager” for quite some time. Lohan does not have a relationship with her father, having accused of being abusive towards her, her mother, and her siblings. Aliana, or “Ali,” is a singer and actress, and has appeared in several of her older sister’s projects. Brother Dakota, or “Cody,” is an actor, as well.
Lohan’s first Hollywood relationship was with the late Aaron Carter, a pop star and fellow teen sensation. They dated for less than a year in 2003. She then dated actor Wilmer Valderrama in 2004, and the couple faced some criticism given she was barely 18 to his 24. In 2006, she dated both shipping heir Stavros Niarchos and restaurateur Harry Morton. More controversy arose when Lohan dated English DJ Samantha Ronson from 2008 to 2009, as their same-sex relationship was both frowned upon and exploited by the media.
In 2013, she was linked with hotelier Vikram Chatwal and former NFL player Matt Nordgren. She was engaged to Russian businessman Egor Tarabosov, but she ended the relationship in 2016 and opened up about his abuse towards her. She was rumored to be dating the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman, in 2019. Finally, after three years together, she and financier Bader Shammas tied the knot in April 2022. The couple live together in Dubai.
Lindsay Lohan certainly has had plenty of ups and downs in her career and her personal life, but right now, she seems to be in a good place. We loved seeing her back on our screens in Falling for Christmas, and we’re so excited to see what comes next for her! We hope she stays happy and healthy as she rebuilds her career.
