HBO Max has a big year ahead with several new releases including The Last of Us and White House Plumbers amongst several other shows. Amongst this mix, we also have Love and Death, created by David E. Kelley, and if you’re familiar with him, you know this isn’t his first project with HBO Max. He has also created shows like Big Little Lies and The Undoing. Now, he’s back with something on similar lines, but the expectations for Love and Death are incredibly high given the cast and plot, which will be discussed later in the article.
Love and Death is the drama miniseries that will be based on the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs” by Joe Bob Briggs and Jim Atkinson. So if that indicates towards anything, it’s the fact that the entire series is based on a true story and a very interesting one. Let’s dive into it and keep reading this article if you want to find out everything about Love and Death, from the plot to the cast to the release date and more:

As we mentioned earlier, Love and Death is based on a book that details true events that took place. Apart from the book, this drama miniseries will also take inspiration from a few Texas Monthly articles which were titled “Love & Death in Silicon Prairie, Part I & II.” We can see the title inspiration, however, apart from the articles, this title also makes sense because Love and Death is going to be about passion, crime, and everything in between.
Love and Death will focus on the shocking murder of Betty Gore which took place in 1980, and shook the entire community. It happened in a small town in Texas, and while the miniseries will pay good attention to the murder, the focus will remain on the prime suspect and lead of this series, Candy Montgomery. Candy was the ideal suburban wife. She did everything a good wife would do in those years. She cooked, she cleaned, she took care of her husband and kids, but it wasn’t enough for Candy, she needed more, and that’s what she went for. Candy struck up an affair with Betty’s husband, and soon after that affair ended, Betty was found dead. The death was clearly ruled as murder because of the multiple axe wounds and the brutality of the crime.
Of course, Candy was the prime suspect in the case and the last person to have seen Betty alive. Eventually, Candy confessed to the murder but claimed it was self-defense, and much to everyone’s surprise, Candy was found not guilty. Now, this was the entirety of the true story in the briefest way possible, and we are unsure of how much Love and Death will actually cover, but by the looks of it, they’re going to showcase every phase of this crime, even the court proceedings. Lately, true crime has become one of the most popular genres, and if done right, it’s almost always successful. So, let’s hope HBO Max and Kelley do justice to the murder of Betty Gore.
The star of the shoe will be Candy Montgomery and the perfect actress has been cast for this role. Elizabeth Olsen will be playing the role of Candy, and her fans are more than thrilled about this. After Olsen’s performance in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, she has become the perfect face for a sinister character, and that’s exactly what Candy is. Olsen has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years as Wanda Maximoff, and we are more than excited to see her in a different role because she fits the bill perfectly!
The role of Allan Gore, aka Betty Gore’s husband, will be played by Jesse Plemons. Plemons is best known for his role in the drama series Friday Night Lights and his appearance in the popular show, Breaking Bad. It will be interesting to see what Plemons brings to the table as Allan Gore, and how he and Olsen work together on screen! Lily Rabe is set to play the role of Betty Gore herself, and if you’re familiar with American Horror Story, then you already know just how talented she is.
The other actors and actresses who will be joining the cast of Love and Death are Patrick Fugit, Harper Heath, Fabiola Andújar, Olivia Grace Applegate, and Krysten Ritter amongst several others. So, you will get to witness a whole lot of talent in one series, but we are more than certain you will not be able to keep your eyes off Elizabeth Olsen.
As of now, there is no set release date for Love and Death, however, we can expect one in the coming weeks, because this drama miniseries is set to release in 2023 itself. So, we will make sure we keep you posted regarding any updates. However, we can confirm that Love and Death will be available to watch on HBO Max exclusively. For reference, the filming for Love and Death concluded in April 2022, so we can definitely expect it in the first half of this year because we are just as impatient as you are.
There is no official trailer for Love and Death just yet, but we have seen a glimpse of the miniseries, and it’s more than enough to be intrigued by the setting, the characters, and especially Candy, who seems like she’s up to no good. You can watch the teaser here, and we will save you some time. Skip to 1:18 for Love and Death, unless you want to watch everything that HBO Max is up to this year, which is also very interesting, but our focus remains on Love and Death.
If you love true crime or some southern drama, then Love and Death is the perfect show for you. Hopefully in the next few weeks, there will be more updates regarding this miniseries, and we will make sure we keep you updated. Are you excited about this series? Do let us know in the comments!
