Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Season 1 World Setting

Before we head to the main dish let’s look at the starters, and for that what’s better than having a review of the prequel? The story is set in the world where Tsukumogami exists these are wandering spirits which sometimes come to the living world, and the same clan is responsible for sending them over to the spirit world, if; you want a similar resemblance to imagine how Noragami world works the same concept is applied here.

Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Season 1 Plot & Recap

Now that the plot of Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari is in place, let’s get into the storyline. Our story starts with one of the Saenome clan members who exorcises a Tsukumogami while asking for its permission.

Then we see a young guy named Kunato Hyouma who is the grandson of the old man who exorcises the spirit.

Hyouma also exorcises the spirit but; without asking the spirit and just punches the spirit as if he relents his anger on the spirit. After being scolded by his grandfather; he is now sent to a different section of the clan where humans and Tsukumogami coexist together.

The existence of both clans surprises, Hyouma as his elder sister and brother were killed by a spirit. Hyouma finally decides to go there to check if it’s possible or not. When he reaches there, he is greeted by spirits who work under a high school girl named Botan Nagatsuki.

Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Season 1 Plot & Recap

In the absence of Botan, Hyouma questions the intentions of the spirits which makes one of them flip, and both of them end up having a duel that was stopped by other spirits as it was time for Botan to return from school.

Now in a world where a girl is surrounded by Tsukumogami and a guy who hates them, how will the lives of these characters unfold?

Interesting right? Well, watching anime is much more fun. To be honest, we were reluctant at first, as the concept of spirits and people who exorcise them has become quite commonplace, but after watching the first episode we were hooked on this anime, and it was worth watching.

Apart from the storyline, the author did a great job maintaining a balance; between action and comedy. It will almost feel natural and smooth which is quite rare; for an anime of this genre.

Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Season 2 Cast Comments

Gi troop horse – Takeo Otsuka

Anyway, I was happy. When I heard the results at the office, I involuntarily raised both my fists together with the manager who reported me. I am very honored to be involved in this work in the role of Gihyoma.

Nagatsuki Botan – Yuki Takada

I’ve loved reading shounen manga for a long time, so I thought I’d be able to get involved in it someday. I was very surprised when I was informed that my appearance was decided, but I was happy because it was also the moment when one big dream came true.

Nagatsuki Botan - Yuki Takada

Haori Sawashiro – Miyuki

I’m Miyuki Sawashiro, and I will be in charge of Haori’s voice. “Monogatari” is full of attractive characters with very powerful eyes. I read the original so quickly that I was drawn in, so I am grateful to be involved as a member of the animation team.

Nagi Chikahiro – Kobayashi

I was really happy when I heard over the phone that I was selected for the role of Nagi. I don’t get to play a character that’s irritable like Nagi very often, so I thought it was very fresh.

Also, I had the chance to meet the cast members before the dubbing, which is rare in the anime scene, and I was very happy when I met everyone who played the role of the wedding furniture.
