New actors and actresses are coming in every day and while their performances are all noteworthy, we must not forget the classics, especially some of the leading women in Hollywood, and those include Natalie Portman. Portman’s career has spanned across two decades and she has been a part of several movies across different genres. Actors or actresses rarely appear in two popular franchises, but Portman has managed to achieve that with the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. Her contribution to Hollywood is noteworthy, and her talent has been recognized at multiple stages throughout her career.
There is a lot more to Natalie Portman than just her movie career, and we’re going to tell you all about her. Here’s everything you need to know about Natalie Portman, from her net worth to her biography, to her dating history and much more:
With an estimated net worth of $90 million, Natalie Portman is one of the best-paid actresses in the world. Her career spans almost 30 years, and in that time, she’s played roles in some unforgettable projects. She has appeared in the Star Wars franchise and has even starred opposite Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Her work with Marvel Studios was also a huge source of her income. Portman has played the role of Jane, who has been Thor’s love interest in the Marvel movies and comics. After her role in Thor: Love and Thunder, it looks like she will continue being a part of future movies, so her net worth is bound to increase in the future.
Natalie Portman was born on the 9th of June, 1981 in Jerusalem but moved to the United States of America soon after, where she spent all her years growing up. Portman often described herself as a serious kid who always knew what wanted and picked up various activities including ballet and modern dance. She was offered the opportunity to become a child model, but she swiftly turned that down and decided to get herself an acting agent instead, because that’s where she was truly passionate. She auditioned for the off-Broadway Ruthless! And was chosen as an understudy for the lead.
In 1994. Portman secured herself a lead role in Luc Besson’s action-drama Léon: The Professional, and after her debut performance, she went back to school to finish her studies. After that, Portman was offered several small roles which she graciously accepted, and it was these roles that led her to be recognized by bigger directors, who would later go on to hire her for more prominent roles. She has worked with legends like Woody Allen and Tim Burton, no matter how small or big the role was. There were times she was often considered for roles but because of her age and how young she looked; things didn’t always work out in her favor.
Portman’s first big-budget production wasn’t until 1997 when she played the role of Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, for which she is well-known even today. After this, she went on to finish high school and excelled in science, while also trying to maintain a career in acting. In 2000, Portman played the role of a pregnant teen in the movie Where the Heart is, which was also her first solo screen appearance, and in 2001, Portman returned to Broadway.
2004 was a good year for Portman as she starred in the movie Closer, alongside Julia Roberts, Jude Law, and Clive Owen. Her performance in Closer is often labeled as Portman’s breakthrough performance, and she also earned a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. If people didn’t already know who Portman was, they surely would after 2004.
Portman’s career kept expanding over the years, and she worked with every big name in Hollywood and eventually gave the performance of a lifetime in the movie Black Swan, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. After that, she also went on to become an executive producer, and her career has been on a constant high and continues to remain so even today.
Beyond her impressive and exceptional movie career, Portman is also an animal rights activist and has also supported anti-poverty causes. Portman also attended Harvard University to complete her degree in psychology, and around the same time she was also filming different movies. We simply can’t reduce Natalie Portman down to beauty with brains, because she is so much more, and has set an example for millions of women out there.
Natalie Portman met her now husband, Benjamin Millepied in 2010 while filming Black Swan. Soon after, Natalie and Benjamin started dating and tied the knot two years later in August 2012. The lovely couple has two children together, Aleph and Amalia. Although Natalie and Benjamin have been together for over a decade, that doesn’t mean that Natalie Portman hasn’t been linked with other men romantically prior to that.
When you’re a big part of an even bigger industry, people talk, and paparazzi follow and scrutinize every single move, and given Natalie’s success from the very beginning, she was bound to have been linked with other men. In 2009, Natalie was rumored to be dating the Brazilian actor, Rodrigo Santoro. A year before that, in 2008, Devendra Banhart and Natalie Portman were an item, but their relationship or fling, whichever you call it was fairly brief. Another brief relationship in 2007, took place between Nathan Bogle and Natalie Portman. However, the rumor mill of 2007 didn’t just stop there, as Portman was also linked with the popular actor Jude Law, and Nathaniel Philip Rothschild. However, none of these relationships were ever confirmed.
2006 also seemed like an interesting year for Portman as well because she was romantically linked with Jake Gyllenhaal and Andy Samberg. However, by the looks of it, Portman and Gyllenhaal only had a fling, and again, neither of these was confirmed by either party.
Mexican actor and producer, Gael García Bernal and Natalie Portman dated on and off for three years between 2003-2006. Richard Melville Hall aka Moby and Portman also dated in 2001, however, this relationship was very brief and didn’t last very long. In the early 2000s, Portman was romantically linked with her Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen, but neither of them confirmed this relationship, but the fans loved this rumor nevertheless.
Dating back to the 90s now, in 1998, Lukas Haas and Portman were reportedly together, and that’s as far back as we can go! It’s safe to say that before meeting Benjamin, Natalie was a part of several rumors and has been linked with a range of men, but we don’t know how many of these actually happened and how many are simply rumors.
Natalie Portman is a single child who was born into a Jewish family to Shelley and Avner Hershlag. Natalie’s maternal grandparents were American Jews, whereas her paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants. Although Natalie was a single child, she made sure that her first child would have a sibling. In 2014, when Natalie Portman married Benjamin Millepied, he said he was in the process of converting to Judaism. Natalie gave birth to their son Aleph in 2011 and even had a small role in Thor: Love and Thunder as one of the kids in New Asgard, along with Hemsworth and other cast members’ children. In 2014, she gave birth to Amalia, who was also in Thor: Love and Thunder. We don’t know if Aleph and Amalia would actually want to pursue a career in acting, but if they do, Marvel is definitely a good place to start!
We could go on and on about Natalie Portman because her history with activism, education, and movies are incredibly vast. Portman will always be one of the leading women of Hollywood, so do let us know in the comments what your favorite Portman role has been because there are far too many to choose from!
