#NoFilter Netflix Review: Stream It or Skip It

If you love sitcoms that will make you double down with laughter, then we’ve got something in store for you. #Nofilter was released on Netflix recently and while the show is still finding its way on people’s screens, we have decided to go ahead and review it.

Netflix is doing a good job in 2023 when it comes to branching away from the usual American sitcoms or Hollywood movies. #NoFilter is a Brazilian sitcom that revolves around a young woman who is ready to leave everything behind and become an influencer, because that has to be the most popular job these days, right?

#NoFilter Review

#Nofilter might not be in your Top 10 just yet, but we are certain that the more people learn about it, the more they will want to watch it. That’s why we’re here, ready to review #NoFilter and give you our final verdict on whether you should stream it or skip it.

We will try to avoid any spoilers in this article, but it won’t be entirely spoiler-free either. So, keep reading this review to learn more about the most recent Brazilian sitcom, and let us know in the comments what you think about it:

Everything About #NoFilter Screams Average

We just want to start by saying that there’s nothing wrong with average. Sometimes average works and we might be on the fence when it comes to #NoFilter, but the more we talk about it, the more you will understand just why. #NoFilter revolves around a young college-going girl Marcely who decides that she wants to live that influencer life, and has been thoroughly influenced by Pi Love, her favorite influencer.

Now the words influence and might appear often in this review, but try and be patient with us, or you can make a drinking game out of it. Take a sip every time we use a sentence with influence or influencer in it. Hopefully, that will make this review, and #NoFilter a lot more fun.

Everything About #NoFilter Screams Average

These days, if there’s one job that people either love a little too much or hate with all their hearts, it is the job of a social media influencer. Unless you are an influencer, you won’t fully understand what actually goes on in that job, but #NoFilter gives us a satirical glimpse into that life, through the lively and determined character Marcely. If you have watched the show already, you know that the best part about #NoFilter is probably Marcley, who carries the entire show despite having several supporting characters around her.

There’s a set of divorced parents between whom the dad simply can’t stay away from his ex-wife and daughters. She has some brilliant friends who are mostly supportive of her questionable life choices. And of course, the nonchalant younger sister who is always ready to roll her eyes or say something mean.

#NoFilter

Of course, even beyond the secondary characters in #NoFilter, there were several tertiary characters with some iconic moments and punchlines, but the spotlight stayed on Marcely, and that definitely helped the show as a whole. Marcley’s character is well-written and incredibly relatable for today’s generation.

Who doesn’t want to quit their boring job and sample makeup or food for a living? Marcley is just like every other girl her age and her personality shines through in #NoFilter, despite all the chaos, which means there’s a lot of credit that needs to go to the writers of the show, and rightfully so. If you watch #NoFilter, we are certain that your attention will be on Marcely from the first episode, until the very end.

Marcley

Although #NoFilter had some funny moments and a remarkable main character, it got us wondering if that was enough to keep this show afloat and eventually bring it to the Top 10 in different countries around the world. #NoFilter often had a lot going on for it, and the plot wasn’t unique enough to keep us looking forward to more.

Every episode had a moment or two that made us laugh, and we wondered if Marcley would truly become an influencer towards the end of the show or end up going back to her normal life, but that was about it. The plot simply wasn’t enough to hold our attention or make us curious about what was about to happen. Sometimes comedy and punchlines aren’t enough for a show to do well, even if it’s a sitcom.

#NoFilter Comedy

#NoFilter was a little different from what we had expected and while Marcely did carry the ten episodes, it simply wasn’t enough for us to recommend you to stream #NoFilter, especially if you are looking for something different to watch this weekend. However, if you want some mindless teenage comedy with a satirical take on social media influencers, then a quick binge of #NoFilter makes sense. This show is also bound to make you look at Nutella and kofta in a different light, but we’ll let you watch the first episode to figure that out.

We often say that it isn’t fair to judge a show based on its pilot episode, but we can promise you that the comedy and momentum that you see in the pilot episode of #NoFilter, are maintained throughout the ten episodes, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. As we said at the beginning of this review, we are a little on the fence regarding #NoFilter. If you do end up watching it for all ten episodes, we are sure you stuck around for Marcley, just like we did.

Nutella and kofta

This also makes us wonder whether or not #NoFilter will be renewed for another season, especially taking into consideration that Netflix isn’t very generous with renewals despite a great viewership.

We’ll only have to wait and see what the future holds for Marcely and #NoFilter, but we will definitely keep you updated as soon as we have any news about the future of this show.

Conclusion

Sitcoms are never easy to pull off and it is even harder for them to get a large fan following considering just how many are being made every day.

Nevertheless, #NoFilter has made a commendable effort to make its viewers laugh, and we would love to know what you think about the show, so do let us know in the comments!
