There’s often a burning question on the internet that presents itself in several forms, but to summarize it as briefly as possible, the question asks the people of today about how important a role sex plays in modern dating, not just relationships, dating in general.
We have a feeling the Netflix series Sex/Life aims to answer this question with a raunchy theme and steamy sex scenes, but what it has failed to do once again in Sex/Life Season 2 is, to tell a story. It is no secret that dating in today’s world isn’t the easiest thing, and Sex/Life Season 2 showcases just that, and we’re here to talk all about it.
Before we do a little recap and review of Sex/Life Season 2, it is important to note that this season is currently trending on Netflix and people are consuming it every day, and recommending it to their friends, even though they themselves might not like it.
But Sex/Life Season 2 has portrayed itself in a way that even if it isn’t a great season, it will be successful, and the producers and creators deserve some credit for that. So, keep reading this recap and review to know what we thought about Sex/Life Season 2, and do let us know whether you agree or disagree with us.
Can Steamy Sex Scenes Save Sex/Life Season 2?
If we had to summarize our thoughts about Sex/Life Season 2 in the briefest way possible, we would call it a sexy mess. We could leave it at that, but because we spent a good amount of time watching the entire season, it would only make sense if we talk about it.
Plus, if you’re reading this right now, we could probably save you the time that we will never get back. All right, maybe we are being a little too harsh on Sex/Life Season 2, but you can’t blame us because this season felt like it was telling the same story over and over again, in every episode, and the ending, which was intended to be a plot twist, felt way too predictable.
Frankly, Sex/Life Season 2 hasn’t added to the charm of the series overall, but still, there’s a reason for mass appeal when it comes to this series, and we all know what that is.
If you took the sex out of Sex/Life Season 2, you would simply have a variety of characters fighting with each other about life. That’s all the show would be.
We understand sex is an important part of this show, considering it’s right there in the title, but is that the only reason people are hooked on Sex/Life Season 2? And at what point do the rose-colored glasses come off, and everyone realizes that this season had absolutely nothing to add to the story, because, at the end of the day, Billie was back to square one.
Now that we have mentioned Billie, we might as well spend some time talking about her and her journey in Sex/Life Season 2.
Billie is the main character of Sex/Life Season 2, and there’s no doubt that she’s going through a difficult time in her life, but she is finally ready to pick up the pieces and rekindle her once-forgotten romance with her ex-lover, Brad.
Once that is in shambles too because Brad is about to be a father (no, it isn’t Billie’s baby), Billie has to venture out into the world as a single woman. Now, here’s where Sex/Life Season 2 messes things up, according to us.
Ideally, Billie should have spent the entire season single, exploring life, reconnecting with womanhood and gal pals, but it isn’t long before a new man, Majid, is thrust into her life.
Billie has a lot on her plate, and almost all those ingredients include men. Sex/Life Season 2 had a chance to explore Billie being single and not caring about men or her past relationships, but the opposite of that happened.
Of course, Cooper was an important part of Sex/Life Season 2, and he was a trainwreck for the majority of it, even though he had us fooled because we were convinced he was in a stable relationship with his boss, Francesca.
Instead, he had been fooling around with every other woman, including his best friends’ wife. Cooper was clearly grieving his marriage in Sex/Life Season 2, and while we hated his ways, at least it didn’t feel too orchestrated, but we can’t say the same about Billie.
We truly believe that although Cooper and Billie both had their happy ending in Sex/Life Season 2, despite being back with their exes, Cooper’s new relationship might thrive a little more, but we hope we don’t have to find that out in Sex/Life Season 3, should it happen.
Sex/Life Season 2 also focussed a little on Sasha and she was given more screentime this time around, which had our hopes high because maybe we could have focussed on something other than Billie and Cooper constantly being unfulfilled and projecting their trauma from their marriage on their other partners.
However, of course, because the show is all about sex and life, we got to see that side of Sasha and the return of her ex-lover, Kam. However, we will have to admit, they could get a spin-off romantic comedy of their own, and we would watch it, but they would have to work a little more on the spark and chemistry.
Speaking of, Sex/Life Season 2 could have been a movie, just saying. They did not have to stretch that out for so long, and frankly, if Sex/Life were a movie and maybe had a sequel, this review might have been a lot more positive.
Finally, let’s get to the main point of Sex/Life Season 2 and why people have gravitated towards this show, hoping there would be a story or a smidge of the plot somewhere. There is a lot of nudity and a lot of sex, and while these scenes are well-curated, they don’t tell a story.
Sex/Life Season 2 felt hollow and unfinished, but at least they had enough nudity to keep the viewership high because that might be the only thing they have going for them. Yes, the show is about sex, but there has to be a story somewhere, right? And that is why, our final verdict for Sex/Life Season 2, feel free to skip it. This season definitely wasn’t our cup of tea.
We love progressive media where women and men are allowed to be naked and express their sexual desires, but if there’s no story and character development, it simply isn’t for us.
If you have watched the first season, you will be tempted to watch Sex/Life Season 2, and we won’t hold you back, but please don’t keep your expectations too high, because you will come out of it disappointed. Sex/Life Season 2 could have been a lot better, and if Netflix gives them another shot for Season 3, we would love to see something different in the future.
Conclusion
Sex/Life Season 2 might not have been our cup of tea, but maybe you enjoyed it, and if that’s the case, we would love to know in the comments what your thoughts about this season are!
