As of October 2022, Forbes estimates Taylor Swift’s net worth to be an unbelievable $570 million! Since her debut in 2006, Swift has released ten studio albums and embarked on tours for most of them, each with its own merchandise in addition to the merchandise regularly available on her website. She also has endorsed several products and companies, including Diet Coke, AT&T, Keds, American Express, and Apple Music. Sincer her latest album Midnights was released just last month and tickets for her upcoming Eras stadium tour go on sale this week, it’s safe to say her net worth can only go up from here.
Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in West Reading, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, and participated in musical theatre as a child. Inspired by country stars Shania Twain and Faith Hill, Swift made it her goal to move to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a country music career. At age 11, she traveled to Nashville with her mother to visit record labels and was rejected at first. She learned to play guitar when she was 12 and started working with a talent manager by the time she was 13, scoring an artist development deal. Swift signed her first record deal in 2005 and began recording her debut album. After recording her second album, Fearless, she embarked on her first headlining tour, which grossed $63 million.
All in all, Swift has recorded ten full-length studio albums and re-recorded two of those albums. She has directed and produced several of her own music videos and has ventured into filmmaking, including documentaries about the making of her albums and a short film. She has acted in several films, including Valentine’s Day, The Lorax, Cats, Amsterdam, and The Giver. Swift has headlined five tours and will headline a sixth in 2023.
Taylor Swift’s family is small and tight-knit. Her father, Scott, is a former stockbroker, and her mother, Andrea, is a former mutual fund marketing executive. Her mom is very involved with her fans, paying attention to fans in the crowds and on social media, sometimes giving them opportunities to meet Taylor backstage. She has a younger brother, Austin, who is an actor. He also manages her film projects and music licensing. Her grandmother was Marjorie Findlay, an opera singer. Swift wrote a song called “Marjorie,” inspired by the lessons she learned from her grandmother. The song features a sample of Marjorie’s voice singing opera.
Over the years, Taylor has dated her fair share of men in Hollywood. Her first public relationship was with Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. The two dated for about three months in 2008, and he dumped her over a 25-second phone call! They seem to be on good terms, though, and Jonas’s wife, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, is a self-proclaimed Swiftie. Next, Swift dated Twilight’s main werewolf, Taylor Lautner, circa 2009. Her song “Back to December” is rumored to be about him and how she hurt him because she didn’t return his feelings. One of her more controversial relationships was with singer-songwriter John Mayer. At the time, she was 19 and he was 32. They only dated for a few months, but she did call him out in her song, “Dear John,” for the way he treated her when she was too young to be with him.
Perhaps her most (in)famous relationship was that with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who was 29 to her 20. They only dated for three months, and he supposedly broke up with her over text message, citing their age difference as the reason, only for his next girlfriend to be even younger than Taylor. This relationship is the one which inspired her hit song “All Too Well,” of which she later released a 10-minute version. In 2021, Swift won several awards for her direction of a short film based on the song.
Additionally, Swift has dated singer-songwriter Harry Styles, DJ Calvin Harris, and actor Tom Hiddleston. She has been dating English actor Joe Alwyn since 2017. He even co-wrote multiple songs on her recent albums Folklore and Evermore under the pseudonym William Bowery. Fans have speculated that they are engaged or that they might even be married already!
Throughout her career, Taylor Swift has donated generously to a number of causes, including relief funds for communities in the United States devastated by natural disasters, such as flood, tornadoes, and hurricanes. She has donated money and books to various schools across the United States, as well as over $4 million to several schools in order to refurbish auditoriums and music departments. She has given items to charities for auction, such as UNICEF and MusiCares, and she has both donated and fundraised to several organizations which research and treat cancers. Swift is also known to send money to her fans for medical and academic expenses.
Politically, Swift has spoken out against the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the United States and fervently criticizes police brutality and racism. She is also an advocate for LGBTQ rights, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the March for Our Lives movement for gun control reform in the United States.
There is no question that Taylor Swift is one of the most influential people of our time. Her dedication to her fans and to her beliefs set her apart from a lot of other celebrities today. Although some people love to hate her, we think she’s worth a listen. If you want more Taylor Swift, check out Midnights, her most recent album, or watch her documentary Miss Americana on Netflix!
