The Boogeyman: Plot, Cast, Release Date and More

Horror fans know that if there is one thing they can rely on steadily on Stephen King’s adaptations, whether it is his novels or short stories, they are almost always a success. Stephen King has often been crowned the king of horror, and rightfully so because his work always has scared people. The good thing about his work is that it isn’t cheap tricks and jump scares; there’s always an exciting story, and one such story will be coming to your screens this year, and that’s why we’re here to talk about The Boogeyman.

The Boogeyman is one of Stephen King’s oldest stories which first came out in 1973, half a century ago. The Boogeyman was initially announced in 2018, so the fans have had to wait a while for its release, but now that it is finally here, we can’t wait to tell you all about it. So, keep reading to find out everything you need about The Boogeyman, from the plot, the cast, the release date, and more. Also, make sure you turn the lights on before reading this article.

What Is The Plot of The Boogeyman?

You will understand why we asked you to keep the lights on as you read the plot of The Boogeyman, but before we dive into any details, let’s take a little look at the official synopsis to give us a better idea of what to expect:

“High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from their mother’s recent death and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist dealing with his pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.”

Now those of you who have read the original short story written by Stephen King probably already know what to expect from the upcoming horror movie, but we will still give you a little rundown, especially since we aren’t entirely sure just how close the film will be to the original literary source. However, we hope it is more or less the same with a few creative changes from the director Rob Savage. So far, we know that the movie’s point of view will be different from the point of view that was told in the original story, which is an interesting choice by the creators and director. In this article, we will focus more on the movie. However, we recommend reading the original short story to see the differences for yourself when The Boogeyman releases!

The Boogeyman will revolve around the Harper kids, Sadie and Sawyer, who are still reeling from losing their mother. The younger kid can’t sleep without the lights off, along with a little lamp that she clutches close to her chest. However, this isn’t her way of grieving her mother because there is something sinister hiding in her closet, out to get her, and she is well aware but too young to have anyone believe her until things get out of hand.

The Plot of The Boogeyman

Soon enough, her older sister experiences things too, and matters worsen, but will their father take the necessary action? Or will it be too late? Amidst all this, we also witness one of Dr. Harper’s patients who has been through something similar with his kids, and that’s what the source material focuses on, although it is going to be a subplot in The Boogeyman. It will be interesting to see how things pan out and whether or not the fans will be thrilled about the changes. Nevertheless, we know it will be scary because the boogeyman is out to get Sadie and Sawyer as he feeds off their pain and grief. There is nothing more sinister than The Boogeyman.

The Cast of The Boogeyman

We are always appalled in the best way possible when we see kids in horror movies because it cannot be an easy experience. The Boogeyman will revolve around two main protagonists, Sadie and Sawyer, who Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair, respectively, will play. You are surely missing out if you haven’t heard of these actresses. Sophie Thatcher will be playing the older sibling, and she is a 22-year-old American actress best known for her work on The Book of Boba Fett, Yellowjackets, and The Prospect.

The Cast of The Boogeyman

While Thatcher will be an essential part of The Boogeyman, the movie’s star is set to be Vivien Lyra Blair. You might recognize Blair from Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return, Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes, Dear Zoe, Waco, Band-Aid, and Mr. Corman. At the age of just ten years, Blair has more experience than many Hollywood actors and actresses, especially those who are starting out. Believe it or not, this young actress also wrote a book called Spider School when she was younger. Blair’s talents know no bounds, and we can’t wait to see more of her in the upcoming horror movie, The Boogeyman.

Other cast members joining Blair and Thatcher in The Boogeyman are David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Oppenheimer, All Creatures Here Below) and Chris Messina (The Mindy Project, Sharp Objects, Devil). Also joining the cast are Madison Hu, Marin Ireland, LisaGay Hamilton, Maddie Nichols, and Han Soto, amongst others.

When and Where Can you Watch The Boogeyman?

As we mentioned before, The Boogeyman was initially announced a few years ago, and after production began, it soon came to a halt, and subsequently, The Boogeyman was canceled. Albeit, a few years later, in 2021, the project was brought back to life, and Rob Savage took on the director role, which brings us to now. After going through a turbulent time, The Boogeyman is almost here, and horror fans are thrilled about it. Initially, The Boogeyman was going to make its debut on Hulu, but you’re all in luck because now the horror movie is getting the big screen treatment. You can officially watch The Boogeyman on the 2nd of June, 2023, in theatres near you.

Is There a Trailer for The Boogeyman?

More often than not, trailers beat their own purpose of simply giving the audiences a glimpse into the story and ending, revealing most of the plot. However, the official trailer for The Boogeyman does things differently, which only makes it a lot scarier. Not a lot of information is revealed in the trailer, and yet you will constantly be on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next jump scare to get your heart racing. The trailer of The Boogeyman gives us a good idea of just how scary the upcoming horror movie is going to be, and we can’t wait to see more of it. The cast has also performed brilliantly so far, and watching another one of Stephen King’s works come to life is truly a pleasure for everyone across the globe. We don’t recommend watching the trailer after the sun sets, especially if you scare easily, but if you are brave enough, go ahead!

We have already warned you about just how scary The Boogeyman is going to be, so horror fans are in for a treat. Even if you aren’t a horror fanatic, we highly recommend The Boogeyman because we know it is going to be interesting and not just scary. Do let us know in the comments if you will be watching The Boogeyman when it releases!
