The Law According to Lidia Poët: Sex, Murder, and Family.
If there is anything you are planning to watch this week, we suggest you put that on pause and give The Law According to Lidia Poët a shot first, and we can assure you that you won’t regret it. This series contains a grand total of six episodes, all under an hour, making it the perfect binge. Plus, the adrenaline from all the suspense and mystery will keep you hooked from the first scene, until the very end.
There are so many things to love about The Law According to Lidia Poët, and we will highlight some of our favorites. Normally, you judge a series by its first episode even if people tell you to give the entire season a chance, but we won’t ask for that. This is simply because the very first episode of The Law According to Lidia Poët is strong enough to keep you going for the rest of the series.
The first episode has a strong start, and it begins all the way in 1883. For those of you who are unaware of Lidia Poët’s story and history, The Law According to Lidia Poët will definitely be an eye-opener of sorts, and it’ll make you wonder how life would be at a time like that, especially if you were a woman. The first scene establishes that there has been a murder and Lidia Poët is asked to be the lawyer of the alleged murderer who claims to be innocent, despite evidence pointing toward him.
It doesn’t take long for Lidia Poët to take on this case because not many approach her, considering she is a woman, and people in Italy weren’t even aware that women could have jobs beyond being devoted wives and mothers. We get a glimpse of just how rare it is for a woman to step into prison by how everyone from the guard to the inmates and even her client, treats Lidia. While the entire case was interesting to watch as it unfolded bit by bit, the first episode focussed on establishing Lidia.
Italians and Netflix don’t shy away from nudity and The Law According to Lidia Poët is proof of that. The first scene where we actually see Lidia is one where she is having sex with a man while her landlady bangs on her door. Lidia seems unattached to the man and it doesn’t take her long to shoo him away through the window as she deals with her business. The entire episode focuses on Lidia’s passion for law and crime, but it isn’t long before all her hopes, dreams, and hard work are shattered when the judge rules that women aren’t allowed to practice law in Turin, and Lidia was officially banned from being a lawyer. In a split second, her entire world came crashing down, but Lidia wasn’t about to give up. So, she packed her bags and left, hoping to turn to the one person who would help her. A fellow lawyer, and her brother, Enrico.
While there were several interesting characters in The Law According to Lidia Poët, from love interests to anarchists, the one person who impacted Lidia’s life and career the most was her brother, Enrico. It took him a little while to come around, but when he did, he agreed on letting Lidia become his assistant, so she wouldn’t have to stop doing what she was passionate about, but also stay clear from the eye of the law. However, Lidia was anything but careful.
In fact, she was a fairly reckless woman when it came to proving her and Enrico’s clients right, but what mattered was that she also managed to figure the case out, and justice was served, even if it meant getting her client to admit to murder. Lidia believed in the greater good, and her brother saw that spark in her, even though he was quick to dismiss her most of the time. Lidia and Enrico’s relationship saw a lot of progress in the six episodes, and it was beautifully written. If there is another season of The Law According to Lidia Poët, we surely hope to see more of that.
Of course, we have to mention Jacopo if we are talking about The Law According to Lidia Poët. The sexual tension and chemistry between him and Lidia were truly undeniable. There will often be moments where you will find yourselves rooting for the two of them, and other times wondering if Lidia deserves better. Nevertheless, Jacopo being one of her main love interests, along with his ongoing subplot, were one of the interesting parts of The Law According to Lidia Poët, which could go amiss if you aren’t paying close attention to the series.
The Law According to Lidia Poët ended on a cliffhanger. Lidia is convinced that there is no future for her Turin especially after her appeal was turned down, despite all the love and support. She is ready to pack her bags and leave for America, without saying goodbye to her family, because she believes that if she left Italy, she could at least practice law freely. The Law According to Lidia Poët ends on a cliffhanger where we see Lidia contemplating whether or not she should stay, and we vote stay! The Law According to Lidia Poët deserves another season because there is so much more to Lidia’s story that we don’t know yet, and need to know.
This series had so many iconic moments, but our personal favorite has to be Lidia exchanging a vase that was gifted to her for a bicycle. She has the time of her life riding that thing in a dress and is least bothered about who is looking or who sees her fall. She is learning and she is thrilled about it. There’s a lot you can learn from The Law According to Lidia Poët, but one of the best things is to live your life and accomplish your dreams no matter what anyone says you can or can’t do.
Conclusion
We said it in the very beginning that The Law According to Lidia Poët has to be on your list very soon, and it will go on to be one of your favorite series of 2023 in no time. We can’t wait to see if The Law According to Lidia Poët comes back for another season, but we are definitely rooting for it.
