Netflix has been trying to get everyone loved up and ready for Valentine’s Day, but they also know just how to keep all their viewers happy because not everyone wants to indulge in romance movies or romantic comedies in the month of February. Some people need a classic horror or thriller, and by the looks of it, Netflix is bringing us both, aka the upcoming horror-thriller The Strays, and while we have very limited information about it so far, we are going to try and catch you up with as much as we possibly can, so make sure you stay until the very end.
The Strays will be directed by Nathaniel Martello-White, who is a British actor, writer, and director. If you don’t recognize him by his name, you might recognize Martello-White from his work which includes shorts like Cla’am, Talking Traffic, and Slap. He has also acted in several tv series like Small Axe, I Hate Suzie, One Dollar, and Collateral amongst several others. So, it is safe to say that The Strays is in good hands. Keep reading this article to learn more about The Strays, from the plot to the cast to the release date, and much more.

What Is The Plot of The Strays?
As we said before, not a lot has been revealed about The Strays just yet, and one of those things includes the plot, which is understandable considering The Strays falls under every genre that requires a great deal of suspense and plot twists. However, we did watch a trailer (which we will talk more about later in the article), which can help us understand the plot of The Strays a little more, or at least that’s what the creators want us to believe. Before we dive into the plot of The Strays, let us take a look at the official synopsis of the upcoming movie:
“A perfect life… a perfect lie… An upper-middle-class woman’s perfectly crafted life begins to unravel with the arrival of two shadowy figures in her town.”
Netflix has made sure that the synopsis of The Strays remains brief and vague to keep the audiences questioning what they are about to experience, and they have definitely succeeded. However, we do know that The Strays revolves around the life of Neve, a woman who is trying her best to navigate her perfect life, or at least that’s what she wants her neighbors and peers to believe. Nathaniel Martello-White talked about how there’s a class divide amongst the British, and people of color have to often alter their personalities to fit into a predominantly white society, and that is exactly what our protagonist seems to be doing.
However, this movie clearly isn’t just about class or the divide of it for that matter, although that might be the underlying theme in The Strays. While the main character seems to have her life together, things start to take a turn for the worst when two people begin showing up in her life, and we can tell that it is her past coming to haunt her.
The movie will most likely begin to unfold in the last thirty minutes and we do not doubt that the suspense will keep us on the edge of our seats. There are a lot of missing pieces when it comes to the plot of The Strays, but what we do know is that things aren’t always how they seem. The lesser you know about the plot of The Strays, the more fun it will be!
The Cast of The Strays
The Strays has a brilliant cast with several talented actors and actresses, but before we talk about anyone else, we have to mention the lead character, the woman whose life is about to be turned upside down, aka Neve, and it is none other than Ashley Madekwe. Some of you might recognize her, but for those of you who don’t, Madekwe is best known for her work on Revenge: The First Chapter, The Umbrella Academy, Salem, County Lines, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl amongst several others. She is a talented British actress, and it will be interesting to see her play the lead role on The Strays because, by the trailer and first looks, she is already doing an exceptional job.
Joining the cast of The Strays we have some brilliant cast members including Justin Salinger, Caroline Martin, Bukky Bakray, Jorden Myrie, Samuel Small, Tom Andrews, Vanessa Bailey, Michael Warburton, and Geroge Greenland amongst others. We can’t wait to see these cast members work together to bring The Strays to our screens, and see how their characters will impact the life of Neve, whether it is for the better or worse.
When and Where Can You Watch The Strays?
The countdown has begun because The Strays is officially less than a month away. It won’t be long before you will be able to watch the upcoming suspense-horror-thriller on your screens. Yes, we are having a hard time placing The Strays into one genre, because there truly is a lot going on, and we are here for it. Back to the release date, The Strays is slated to release on the 22nd of February 2023 and will be exclusively available to stream on Netflix. After all the shows Netflix has canceled in 2022 and this year too, it is high time they start making up for it, and it looks like they are on the right track.
Is There a Trailer for The Strays?
The official trailer for The Strays was released recently, and we are warning you, do not watch it past your bedtime because it will make you feel like someone is constantly looking at you because that’s exactly how Neve seems to feel in the trailer. By just looking at the trailer, we can see that The Strays and the entire genre of it have been inspired by Jordan Peele and Ali Aster movies, and frankly, the viewers seem to love that so far. The Strays trailer especially reminds us a little of the movie Jordan Peele’s movie Get Out, although the plot seems to be very different. The trailer is bound to send chills down your spine, and again, don’t watch it past your bedtime!
Conclusion
If you are a fan of horror or thrillers, then The Strays is going to be on your list of movies to watch in February. Even if you don’t enjoy horror, we highly recommend giving The Strays a chance, because it seems unique and definitely worth a watch. Do let us know in the comments what you think about The Strays so far!
