The Witcher: Blood Origin Netflix - Release Date And Cast Details

The Witcher: Blood Origin Netflix – Release Date And Cast Details

Netflix’s original series The Witcher is one of its most successful to date. The fantasy drama series consists of 16 episodes across two seasons so far. Filming has been completed for Season Three, and Season Four already has been confirmed. There is plenty of lore into which writers could dive, and they did just that by creating the new prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Fans have been very excited about this prequel series, and have been trying to find out more about it ever since it was announced. We did some research to tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix miniseries, The Witcher: Blood Origin, from its plot, to cast, and much more:

What Is the Plot of The Witcher: Blood Origin?

Netflix’s The Witcher is an adaptation of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name. The series follows Geralt of Rivia, a mutant with magical powers he must use to hunt and kill monsters. The story takes place on a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as the Continent. So far, we don’t know a lot about how The Witcher: Blood Origin will progress as a series, but we have a little idea about what might happen in the upcoming series.

The Plot of The Witcher Blood Origin

The Witcher: Blood Origin will take place about 1,200 years prior to The Witcher series, exploring the ancient Elven civilization that once was. Elven civilization has fallen in The Witcher series, having been colonized, so we expect that The Witcher: Blood Origin will clue us into the greatness of the Elven world in the past. It will also tell the story of the creation of the first Witcher and the events leading up to the “Conjunction of the Spheres,” the cataclysmic event where the worlds of monsters, elves, and humans, combined to become one.

The Cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin

The series supposedly will be narrated by a character named Seanchaí, a collector of old lore, played by English actress Minnie Driver, known for her roles in The Phantom of the Opera and The Riches. Seanchaí can shapeshift and is able to travel between realms. Her goal is to tell the old stories in the modern world so that progress can be made. According to Netflix, British actress Sophia Brown stars as Éile, who is “a warrior of the Queen’s guard who leaves to become a traveling musician.” Brown has made several small appearances in film and television, but it seems that Éile will be her first major leading role.

The Cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin

Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) is Scian, “the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword elves on a mission to retrieve a blade stolen from her people.” The Hong Kong Malaysian actress is also known for her roles in Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Crazy Rich Asians, in addition to her roles in Hong Kong action and martial arts films. Laurence O’Fuarain is Fjall, “a man born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a king, but instead sets out in need of vengeance.” The Irish actor appeared on Season 5 of Game of Thrones and played small roles in Vikings and Into the Badlands. English actor Joey Batey will be reprising his role as Jaskier, the bard from the original The Witcher series. He has performed a number of original songs in his time on the show, so we guess that he will serve the same function in the prequel series, as well.

When and Where Can You Watch The Witcher: Blood Origin?

In July 2020, Netflix announced that it had greenlighted a six-episode prequel mini-series to their The Witcher series. Declan de Barra was hired as showrunner, and in July 2021, it was confirmed that Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Brown would star. Filming began in August 2021 in the United Kingdom and ended in November 2021. The Witcher: Blood Origin will be available to stream on Netflix beginning December 25, 2022. The season will consist of four episodes, but the runtime of the episodes has not been revealed as of yet. It does not seem that there will be any future episodes, but it’s Netflix, so never say never!

Is There a Trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin?

Netflix released a teaser trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin on November 10, 2022, and it is available to watch on YouTube. Although the trailer has been out for less than three weeks, it has garnered plenty of attention from existing fans. This teaser of The Witcher: Blood Origin is only a little into the extravagant event this series will be, and we can’t wait to see more of it. We believe a full trailer will be coming soon, probably at the beginning of December, and this section of the article will be updated accordingly.

Conclusion

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set to be one of Netflix’s most compelling original releases this year, which is saying a lot given the number of projects which premiered in 2022. If you’d like to learn more before the series premiere, creator Declan de Barra gave an incredible, in-depth interview with Netflix’s Tudum in September 2022.
