Top 5 Golden Globe Winning Titles that Deserve Your Attention

The award season is here and it truly is the most wonderful time of the year! The Golden Globe awards are some of the most prestigious and awaited awards among all the others. This year, there were some very strong contenders in all the different categories, whether it was the best actor or best-supporting actress, but we have to admit that we’ve been guilty of waiting around for the awards that are specifically going to tell us about the best movies and series!

Golden Globe

Now that we have the official winners, we couldn’t help but pick out some of our favorites from that list and tell you why you should be watching these movies and series if you haven’t already. So, here’s our list of the top five movies and series that were winners at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, and we hope you add all of them to your list, and let us know in the comments what you think about them!

The Fabelmans – Drama Motion Picture

The Golden Globe for Best Picture in the drama category is by far one of the most competitive and prestigious categories. This year, there were a lot of interesting and unique movies that were nominated, including Everything Everywhere All At Once, Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Tár, but ultimately the winner was The Fabelmans. The Fabelmans directed by Steven Spielberg follows the story of a young Sammy Fabelman, who falls in love with movies and the art of making them, eventually picking them up as a hobby with his camera.

The Fabelmans - Drama Motion Picture

This was a coming-of-age story that resonated with a lot of people, and that paired with Spielberg’s direction truly made for a brilliant movie. Steven Spielberg also won the Golden Globe for Best Director, for The Fabelmans, and fans, critics, and others have all been thrilled about this. We highly recommend adding The Fabelmans to your list, along with all the other movies that were nominated, some of which even made it to our top list of movies in 2022!

White Lotus

We have talked about White Lotus a fair bit on our website and even reviewed White Lotus Season 2, so it was no shocker to us when this series won the Golden Globe award for Best Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie. White Lotus has become one of the most popular anthology series in the last couple of years, and we have Mike White and a brilliant cast and crew to thank for that. This series revolves around a murder which is established in the first episodes and the following episodes backtrack all the events that lead up to the murder. Every episode is crazier than the previous one, and this is the perfect series for anyone who loves mystery and drama.

White Lotus

The one cast member who appeared in both seasons of White Lotus was Jennifer Coolidge, who also won a Golden Globe for her performance in this series. All in all, a good year for White Lotus! While you’re possibly on your way to binge White Lotus now, we also recommend watching the other nominees in this category which included Pam & Tommy, Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Black Bird, and The Dropout!

The Banshees of Inisherin – Musical or Comedy Motion Picture

The Banshees of Inisherin won the Golden Globe for Best Picture in the Musical or Comedy category, and we have to admit, despite there being several brilliant movies in this category, we wholeheartedly agree with this win! The Banshees of Inisherin reunites Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who last appeared in the movie In Bruges in 2008. This drama-comedy is all about a failed friendship that takes place around the end of the Irish Civil War in 1923. The Banshees of Inisherin will make you laugh and cry all at once, and you will get to witness a very talented cast in this movie as well.

The Banshees of Inisherin - Musical or Comedy Motion Picture

Joining Farrell and Gleeson, we have Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon, and Gary Lydon amongst several others. The Banshees of Inisherin has blown everyone’s mind and people have described the feeling of watching this movie as something that can never be matched. Colin Farrell also won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his performance in this movie. Not only that, Martin McDonagh won the award for best screenplay for The Banshees of Inisherin. The movie was up against some brilliant nominees like Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Babylon, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Triangle of Sadness.

House of the Dragon – Drama TV Series

When House of the Dragon was first announced, everyone had incredibly high hopes for it because it would serve as the prequel to one of the most popular shows ever made, Game of Thrones. However, fans also realize that House of the Dragon would have a whole lot to live up to, but clearly, it did not disappoint. After the not-so-popular last season of Games of Thrones, House of the Dragon was exactly what we needed. After the success of the series, with some great viewership and critics’ reviews, this series has won the Golden Globe for Best Drama TV series, and everyone is thrilled about it.

House of the Dragon - Drama TV Series

The events in House of the Dragons take place 200 years before those of Game of Thrones, and this series focuses on the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen and the war known as the Dance of the Dragons. So, if you haven’t watched Game of Thrones yet, then House of the Dragon would be a good place to start, and if you have already watched Game of Thrones, then it is safe to assume that you have also watched House of the Dragon. The other nominees in this category were Ozark, Better Call Saul, The Crown, and Severance.

Pinocchio – Animated Feature Film

2022 was a good year for director Guillermo del Toro, with two big releases, one series on Netflix called Cabinet of Curiosities, and the second, an animated feature movie called Pinocchio. The latter has now officially become the recipient of the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, despite competing against some brilliant movies like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, Turning Red, and Inu-oh. We know Guillermo del Toro loves experimenting with his content, so it was no surprise when Pinocchio was first announced that would be a little different from the usual Disney or Pixar animation that we are used to.

Pinocchio - Animated Feature Film

Pinocchio has been a passion project of Guillermo del Toro for the longest time and has felt a deep connection to the character of Pinocchio, making this movie all the more special. This movie reimagines the story of Pinocchio and is set in Fascist Italy during World War 1, although it is still loosely inspired by the original story in the 1883 Italian Novel. If you’re a fan of animation or a fan of Guillermo del Toro, we highly recommend watching Pinocchio, which is available to stream on Netflix!

Conclusion

There you have it folks! That was our list which is truly only the tip of the iceberg since a lot more happened at the Golden Globe Awards. If you haven’t tuned in yet, you can go through the different lists of nominees and winners, however, if you need the best of the best for a weekend binge, you can refer to our list!
