Netflix has been on a canceling spree in 2022, and clearly, we don’t see them stopping that pattern in 2023 either. Right now, Netflix might be the most popular streaming service, but in the light of several shows being canceled, viewers are seen migrating towards other streaming services like Hulu, Prime Video, or Apple Tv+. If you have a favorite show or are excited about a new show, we recommend not getting too attached, because by the looks of Netflix doesn’t care about how popular or loved a show is, they will cancel it.
We have made a list of some of the most popular shows that have come under Netflix’s infamous chopper and will not be renewed for future seasons. We apologize if your favorite show is on the list. So keep reading to find out more about these canceled shows and why we think that they didn’t deserve to be canceled:
The news of Fate: The Winx Saga being canceled caused one of the biggest uproars amongst fans, and despite that, Netflix had not backed down from this decision, leaving an array of hurt fans, cast, and crew. Fate: The Winx Saga wasn’t just a fantasy series for its fans, it was a series that made them nostalgic for their childhood, as it was adapted from the popular cartoon Winx Club. The first season of Fate: The Winx Saga faced some backlash from the audiences, and fans were convinced that the series wouldn’t be renewed.
However, Netflix went ahead and renewed Fate: The Winx Saga for a second season. The second season was a lot more popular because the creators and writers had fixed the errors that they had previously made, and taken into consideration all the feedback that they had received. Fans were thrilled and hoped for a more amazing third season, especially since the second season ended on a cliffhanger and had a few unanswered questions. Alas, that never happened. Netflix went ahead and canceled Fate: The Winx Saga, which led to several petitions and fans begging Netflix to change their decision, but that never happened.
When we talk about unique comic book adaptations, Warrior Nun comes to mind. When Netflix canceled this series after two successful seasons, it left everyone wondering whether adaptations of comics outside the Marvel and DC franchises can survive on streaming platforms. No one understood why Warrior Nun was canceled as the creators and cast members expressed their disappointment. Warrior Nun was on track for season 3, which is why this cancelation came as a shocker. The series revolves around demon-fighting nuns with the protagonist who gets pulled into their world.
The lead character of Warrior Nun was played by Alba Baptista, and there was some controversy regarding this. Baptista got pulled into an unpleasant controversy following her relationship with Chris Evans becoming public. It was less than a week after the controversy that Netflix canceled Warrior Nun and the timing simply didn’t sit right with the fans. Everyone took to Netflix’s Twitter and other social media with the hashtag #savewarriornun, which is still making its rounds, so clearly, viewership wasn’t an issue. No one knows why Warrior Nun was officially canceled, but between the timing and canceling of other shows, Netflix hasn’t come out looking very good!
Partner Track was an incredibly successful show that narrated the story of a very talented female lawyer, Ingrid, who is trying to climb her way up to become a partner at a New York law firm. This series was perfect for anyone who loves romantic comedies, and turns out, a whole lot of people do, which is what made Partner Track a raging success amongst audiences. The show was in Netflix’s top 10 for quite some time with some incredibly steamy subplots in the show, which made the viewers want more. Everyone was certain that this book adaptation would get renewed for another season, but sadly, only a few months after its release, Netflix dropped the news that the show would be canceled.
While Partner Track was popular amongst the general population, the critics had a few rough words for it. Admittedly, a few people did agree that the entire plot of the series would have worked better as a movie instead. This makes us wonder if Partner Track was a movie, would it have gotten a sequel? Nevertheless, even though Arden Cho’s character wasn’t written as well as the critics hoped, her performance was phenomenal, and everyone wanted to see more of that. Maybe eventually Netflix will turn this adaptation into a movie!
The cancelation of a second season of 1899 has come as a shock for people all across the world, especially since it was one of the most-watched shows in recent times. The creators of 1899, Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese also created the popular series Dark, which has three seasons so far. Everyone was certain that 1899 would at least get a second season because of Netflix’s contract with their production house, but that never happened. 1899 was one of the most fascinating and diverse shows of 2022, which told the story of a large group of people migrating to New York City for a fresh start, but on the way, their ship encounters some unpredicted horrors.
1899 was a lot different from Dark, but despite that, it was incredibly successful in terms of viewership and received positive critics’ reviews. The creators announced recently that Netflix would not be going ahead with a second season. Sadly, no one knows why and as of now, if you look at Netflix’s Instagram, one of the most common comments under any new announcements is #save1899 or demanding answers to why this happened to begin with.
Netflix has been consistent when it comes to adult animation. There’s something for everyone. For those who are going through hormonal changes, there’s Big Mouth. For those who like a little bit of science, there’s Rick and Morty. And, there was finally a show for those who liked conspiracy theories, aka Inside Job. Inside Job gained a lot of popularity when it was first released as “Part 1” for its unique concept and even more unique characters. Most recently, Part 2 of the show was released and there was news about Inside Job being renewed. Undoubtedly, the fans were ecstatic about this news because it meant more conspiracy theories about their favorite characters.
However, recently, there was news that the show had been canceled and Netflix had backtracked on its decision. If a cancelation stings, what stings more is something being renewed and then canceled. Of course, the fans haven’t received this news well, just like all the other shows. The creator also posted a tearful goodbye to the fans, and one can only hope that a different channel picks up Inside Job and we continue to witness more craziness. We have written more about the cancelation here, and you can read all about it.
At this point, it’s like Netflix is asking us to not watch any new series because the future of that series is unpredictable and most likely…non-existent. Do let us know in the comments if your favorite show has been canceled!
