Netflix has released an incredible amount of content over the last week. Notably, the second season of the fantasy drama series Warrior Nun dropped on November 10, immediately ranking in the Top 10 on the streaming platform. Fans are anxious for news of Season 3.
While we await confirmation, we’ve compiled anything and everything we believe we can expect out of a third season. Warrior Nun has secured a place for itself as a unique show and garnered several fans since its release. Here’s everything you need to know about Warrior Nun Season 3:

The official series synopsis provided by Netflix explains, “After waking up in a morgue, an orphaned teen discovers she now possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo-Bearer for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.” The series is loosely based on the American manga-style comic book character Warrior Nun Areala, created by Ben Dunn. Warrior Nun tells the story of Ava Silva, a quadriplegic orphan who dies and mysteriously comes back to life. However, now she not only can walk, but also has supernatural powers. These powers and the cause behind them force her to join the Order of the Cruciform Sword, which is an ancient order of – you guessed it – warrior nuns, who fight demons on Earth. Ava’s new powers make her the target of powerful forces in Heaven, on Earth, and in Hell, and Ava must adjust to life as a warrior nun in order to ensure her powers and the Order’s knowledge do not fall into the wrong hands.
Following the first season of Warrior Nun, series creator Simon Barry shared that Warrior Nun originally was supposed to be adapted for the silver screen in an interview with Inverse. When asked why he thinks the story works better as a television show than as a movie, he responded, “There was just too much story for just a movie. There’s too much backstory for the history of the warrior nuns and the Order of the Cruciform Sword. Only in a TV show would we have the real estate to not only introduce the world and the audience to this secret sect but also tell the story of how it came to be.”
Because the show is not such a close adaptation of the comics, it’s hard to say what will happen in Season 3. The original comics did contain a lot of girl power, but at the same time, they were quite misogynistic, representing these badass women of faith as martial artists wearing habits on their heads and bikinis or loincloths on their bodies.
In a 2020 interview with GQ Portugal, star Alba Baptista commented that the comics turned these characters into “sexy nuns with guns,” the opposite of what is portrayed in the television series. Considering all of the mythology and backstory available for the writers to pull from, we can only imagine what’s to come in the next season.
25-year-old Portuguese actress Alba Baptista narrates the series and stars as Ava Silva. Baptista began acting professionally at the age of 16 in Simão Cayatte’s short film Miami, for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Festival Ibérico de Ciné. She is quite well-known in her native Portugal, where she has starred in several films and three television series. Warrior Nun marks her English-language debut, and she recently was seen in the supporting role of Natsha in the historical comedy-drama film Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. Brand-new members of the Warrior Nun audience may recognize her as Chris Evans’ rumored girlfriend, which may be why Season 2 became so popular so quickly.
We can also assume that British actress Lorena Andrea will reprise her role as Sister Lilith, given her increased importance throughout Season 2. Kristina Tonteri-Young most likely will return as Sister Beatrice, as showrunners have hinted at a romance between Beatrice and Ava. Other cast members likely to return are Toya Turner as Shotgun Mary, Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius, Tristán Ulloa as Father Vincent, and Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superior.
Like the first two seasons, we believe that Warrior Nun Season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix. At this time, the show has not yet been renewed for a third season, but we might hear some more over the next few weeks. Since Season 2 was greenlit about a month after the premiere of Season 1, we think we can expect news about Season 3 by the end of this year. Season 1 premiered in July 2020, and Season 2 was released about a year and a half later, so most likely, we don’t think Season 3 will be released until early 2024. Based on Seasons 1 and 2, there probably will be between eight and ten new episodes for Season 3.
In the aforementioned interview with Inverse, Barry shared his hopes for the future of Warrior Nun. “With Warrior Nun, I would give it a window because we’re still so early in the process of developing it,” he explained. “Anything between five and seven seasons would be lovely.”
Season 2 of Warrior Nun only just premiered on November 10, so it will be some time before a potential third season even goes into production. For now, some fast-working and talented fans have put together their own trailers for and thoughts about the next season, like this one here! We’re sure there will be even more incredible fan-made content in the coming weeks as people catch up on Season 2.
Although not much is certain about Warrior Nun Season 3, we know that we are bound to see more incredible fight scenes and that we can expect to be on the edge of our seats with all of the action and drama. We can’t wait to find out if Netflix will renew the series! Have you read the comics or watched Season 2? What do you think will happen in Season 3? Be sure to comment and share your thoughts!
