We Have a Ghost: Plot, Cast, Release Date and More

We have all seen those movies where a sweet and loving family moves into a new home to get the fresh start they deserve, but all of that is interrupted when something or someone begins to haunt them. Well, We Have a Ghost is something like that, but also, not really.

While we do understand that might be a little confusing right now, we will explain it further in this article, so make sure you keep a look out for the plot section because We Have a Ghost is going to blow your mind, in the nicest way possible.

Netflix has a brilliant lineup of movies for February, and while a lot of them are romance movies or romantic comedies, we have a few other genres in the mix as well, which brings us to We Have a Ghost.

We Have a Ghost belongs to one of the most underrated genres in the movie industry, and that is horror-comedy, although we are certain this upcoming will make you laugh from the start to the end, while scaring the characters in the movie, so it is still horror, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, this genre continues to be untapped with plenty of potential and we have a feeling We Have a Ghost will want more creators to explore this genre which the audience seems to love.

So, keep reading to find out everything you need to know about We Have a Ghost, from the plot to the cast to the release date and more:

What Is The Plot of We Have a Ghost?

As we mentioned in the overview, you have to at least stick around for this section of the article, because the plot of We Have a Ghost is going to be more than enough to convince you to watch this movie. Before we dive into the plot of We Have a Ghost, let’s take a look at the official synopsis:

“Finding a ghost named Ernest haunting their new home turns Kevin’s family into overnight social media sensations. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA.”

The official synopsis gives us a little glimpse into what we can expect from We Have a Ghost, and especially a peak into Kevin and Ernest, who seem to be the lead characters of this movie. One is a kid, one is a ghost, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. When Kevin first learns about his house being haunted at school, he is concerned, as anyone would be, but kids are curious, and that curiosity leads Kevin to Earnest, who shockingly doesn’t scare Kevin for more than maybe a jump scare.

As all the members of Kevin’s family learn about the ghost, instead of being terrified and calling a priest, they capitalize on it and become an internet sensation, because who wouldn’t want to see videos of a ghost?

The Plot of We Have a Ghost

You might think that this is all there is to We Have a Ghost, a family and a ghost turned viral, but as the official synopsis says, there’s more. Ernest doesn’t remember how he died, and it is a mystery that Kevin is hell-bent on uncovering.

So, there begins a journey, but things become more and more complicated as time passes by, and Kevin and his family try their best to protect Ernest while also helping him find his truth.

Another interesting thing about We Have a Ghost is that is based on a short story written by Geoff Manaugh called “Ernest.” Netflix has claimed the rights to this story, which follows the same pattern as the series The Watcher, which has been renewed for a second season.

As long as Netflix keeps giving us these brilliant stories, we have no complaints about them adapting stories written by other writers, with their consent, of course. So if you want to read the short story, we highly recommend it, but you can always bookmark it and save it until after you have watched the movie, We Have a Ghost.

The Cast of We Have a Ghost

When it comes to genres like horror-comedy, it is important to have a cast that has actors and actresses who are more versatile when it comes to genres, and by the looks of it. We Have a Ghost has knocked it out of the park when it comes to the cast. Ernest, aka our favorite ghost, will be played by none other than David Harbour, whom you might recognize from the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things.

Harbour also made his Marvel debut in the Black Widow movie and is confirmed to appear in the much anticipated Thunderbolts movie as well as the final season of Stranger Things.

The Cast of We Have a Ghost

David Harbour isn’t the only a-list actor in We Have a Ghost, because Anthony Mackie is also joining the cast. You might recognize Mackie as the new Captain America, who will make his solo debut in the upcoming movie Captain America: New World Order. Mackie has a different look in We Have a Ghost and fans are really excited about it. By the looks of it, Netflix is taking good care of the Marvel actors!

If you thought we were done with a-list actors and actresses, then you thought wrong, because We Have a Ghost will also feature the brilliant, funny, and talented Golden Globe winner, Jennifer Coolidge. If you don’t already know Coolidge, which is highly unlikely, we recommend you go ahead and watch The White Lotus and The Watcher, both in which she has performed brilliantly, and is expected to be a part of the second season of The Watcher.

Other cast members who will be joining Harbour, Mackie, and Coolidge in We Have a Ghost are Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Tig Notaro, Isabella Russo, Niles Fitch, Erica Ash, and Steve Coulter amongst several others.

Not all of their roles have been disclosed just yet, so it will be interesting to see the part they play in the upcoming movie, and whether they become Ernest’s friend or foe.

When and Where Can You Watch We Have a Ghost?

We know that plot and cast have got you excited about watching We Have a Ghost and there’s some good news as the release date for the upcoming movie is less than a month away. We Have a Ghost is officially slated to release on the 24th of February, so you can go ahead and mark your calendars because we surely have.

We Have a Ghost will be exclusively available to stream on Netflix, and this movie is a part of the streaming service’s brilliant lineup for 2023. We can’t wait to see how We Have a Ghost pans out, but we are certain that it will remain on the top 10 list for a while, all across the world. Also, are we secretly already hoping there is a sequel? Yes, we are!

Is There a Trailer for We Have a Ghost?

If you have had a long day and want a good laugh to unwind a little, we highly recommend watching the official trailer of We Have a Ghost, which has already crossed a million views in less than five days.

Although, are we even surprised? With a cast full of some brilliant talent and a story that’s definitely going to be talked about, we can see the trailer hitting five million views in no time. The official trailer of We Have a Ghost is funny, it’s thrilling and almost a little sad, because it makes you wonder just how many spirits might be lingering without knowing their truth.

Well, at least that’s how Kevin feels. The bond between Kevin and Ernest is showcased in the trailer and we can’t wait to see more of that in the movie, along with some great punchlines and hearty humor.

We normally recommend watching trailers involving a ghost when there’s still light out, but with We Have a Ghost, you can watch it anytime and anywhere.

Conclusion

We hope you are as excited for We Have a Ghost as we are, because this horror-comedy is going to be one of a kind, and we can’t wait to watch it unravel. As mentioned before, we are hoping there will be a sequel to this movie, just like Murder Mystery 2, and you will first hear about it on our website should it happen!
