HBO canceled at least eight shows in 2022, and fans haven’t been all that thrilled, which means HBO needs to do some immediate damage control and fix the errors that they might have previously made. This is when their new venture, the upcoming limited series comes into the picture aka White House Plumbers. If you read the title and immediately think of literal plumbers in the White House, we will have to politely correct you there. White House Plumbers will be a political drama with a sprinkle of comedy, which will be directed by David Mandel. Mandel is a writer, director, producer, and comedian, best known for his work on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld, so there’s no doubt that White House Plumbers will be a riot when it comes to comedy.
White House Plumbers focuses on real-life events that led to the downfall of President Nixon, and a whole lot is going on, and hopefully, this series covers all of it, because viewers are curious and excited. Turning one of the biggest political scandals in history into a limited comedy series is definitely a bold move, but we trust Mandel, the creators, and HBO to get the job done because so far, everything about White House Plumbers looks good, and here’s everything you need to know about it ahead of its release:

White House Plumbers will not be the first story revolving around this political scandal, as this scandal has been narrated time and again through various movies over the years. Famously known as the Watergate Scandal, movies like Dick (1999), All the President’s Men (1976), and The Post (2017), are a few among the several examples of movies revolving around the scandal. However, this time around, we have a limited series in the form of White House Plumbers, and we have a good feeling that this one might set itself apart, but we won’t know until its release. The official plot synopsis for White House Plumbers is as follows:
“White House Plumbers tells the story of how Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect.”
This synopsis gives a little idea about the Watergate Scandal and the plot of White House Plumbers, but we’ll give you some more information so you know what you’re diving into! The series focuses primarily on the two most infamous political saboteurs, Liddy and Hunt. While White House Plumbers will focus on the burglary as a whole, the story tells us a lot more about the burglars as we get a peek into their minds, and how they executed something which led to the downfall of an entire presidency, which they were actually trying to protect. The two men were tasked by a White House Special Investigations Unit and were appointed to prevent leaks of any classified information to the media. This hopefully clarifies the title of the limited series, White House Plumbers. You will have to watch the series to learn more about the Watergate Scandal, however, if you’re an American and familiar with President Nixon already, you know what’s about to happen. Nevertheless, this will be a funny take on a scandal like never before.
The two leading characters of White House Plumbers are going to the infamous plumbers aka E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy. This casting is probably going to be one of the reasons viewers are going to want to watch White House Plumbers as soon as it releases. Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux will be playing the roles of E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy respectively, and their buddy chemistry is off the charts and we just know it will reflect perfectly in White House Plumbers. Although these two leading men will be the main focus of the show, several other cast members will be taking on roles that will help drive the narrative, and we’re going to tell you a little more about them.
Lena Headey will be playing the role of Dorothy Hunt, a former CIA Agent, and joining her will be Judy Greer as Fran Liddy. These two women will be at their best trying to keep their families together while also being on the sidelines of the Watergate Scandal.
However, the cast doesn’t just stop here. Other actors and actresses who will be joining White House Plumbers are Domhnall Gleeson, Ike Barinholtz, David Krumholtz, Toby Huss, John Carroll Lynch, and Kathleen Turner amongst others. Undoubtedly, it’s a big-budget series with a star-studded cast and we can’t wait to see them shine on our screens!
This political drama mixed with a side of comedy doesn’t have a fixed release date just yet, however, we do know that White House Plumbers will be available to watch in March 2023. Since it is an HBO series, that is where you will be able to watch it, so now it is the time to get your subscription if you haven’t already! From several sources, we know this will be a mini-series and a limited series with a total of five parts. So the entire scandal will be wrapped up in 5 installments and 1 season! At least this takes the pressure off HBO to renew or cancel yet another series!
HBO recently released a teaser trailer for White House Plumbers and once you watch it, you will know exactly why we called it a political drama with a side of comedy. There’s plenty happening in the teaser already, tensions are running high, and if you’re a fan of politics, then this series is going to be perfect for you. Hopefully, sometime in February, we see a complete trailer for White House Plumber, but we were right about one thing, Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux do make a brilliant duo on screen!
While we know and understand that political dramas aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, rest assured, White House Plumbers is for everyone. Whether or not you know about this infamous scandal, you will enjoy this mini-series thoroughly because it looks promising. Do let us know in the comments any of your favorite movies based on the Watergate Scandal!
