How did Dune: Part Two end?

Dune: Part Two, which has presented itself as a visually striking cinematic masterpiece ended on a rather heavy note. While a few conclusions were met, more open wounds were left for the franchise to continue, with plenty of room to explore new relationships and challenges, particularly for Paul Atreides, played by none other than the beloved and talented Timothee Chalamet.

At the end of Dune: Part Two, Paul bested the Emperor and Harkonnens, bringing a much-needed victory for the Fremen, who stood by Paul through it all and considered him their messiah. However, this also led to the death of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, played by Austin Butler, who had just stepped foot into the franchise.

While Butler’s character was short-lived, the ending of Dune: Part Two also focussed on the separation of Chani and Paul, which is something the movie was slowly and steadily building up to. The last straw was Paul asking for The Emperor’s daughter’s hand in marriage, who is played by Florence Pugh. This leads to becoming the new Emperor of the Known Universe.

Will there be Dune: Part Three?

With the success of the first movie, and the grand release of Dune: Part Two, in addition to more of Frank Herbert’s novels to be explored, Dune: Part Three seems like the best way to move forward with the franchise.

According to Forbes,

Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed a third Dune movie, but Denis Villeneuve said he is working to adapt Dune Messiah, which is the sequel to Frank Herbert’s novel Dune. The director, Villeneuve said, “The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time …There’s a dream of making a third movie…it would make absolute sense to me.”

Since the director himself has talked about a third movie in the franchise, the fans will definitely have something to look forward to, however, it might not happen anytime soon. Until then, the viewers will have to digest the first movies, and maybe take a peak at the novels which have been the core inspiration for these movies.
